Job Description
 

OFFICE OF CITY COMMISSIONERS: Performs technical work in creating marketing and social media content for City Commissioners. Primary duties include developing and posting engaging and informative web content and maintaining social media accounts. Employee is expected to exercise independent judgement, discretion, and initiative in performance of duties. Work is performed under general supervision and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

OFFICE OF COMMUNICATIONS: Performs technical work in coordinating and updating content and files for city websites, internal and external marketing, and social media accounts. An employee assigned to this position works with department representatives, particularly in public safety, to assist them in developing, writing, editing and posting engaging web content. This position is also key in aligning content strategy with developing and implementing ideas to engage users on city social media platforms. This employee works under the supervision of the Digital Communications Supervisor to ensure brand, style and strategy compliance across the city’s platforms. Collaborates with creative and technical teams to enhance innovative digital communications connecting residents and the city, while also maintaining a positive user experience. Performance is reviewed through client feedback and observation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, or related field and one (1) year experience in website content development and/or social media management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of CMS best practices, social media/web trends and some familiarity with graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, is preferred. Valid Florida Driver's License required depending on area of assignment.

 
Responsibilities

Office of City Commissioners:

Plans and executes all digital marketing, including, a marketing database, email, and social media.  Distributes communications.

Designs, builds, and maintains social media presence.

Research web and media trends to improve the quality of the City Commissioner’s web platforms.

Brainstorms new and creative strategies.

Collaborate with internal teams to create landing pages and optimize user experience.

Evaluates end-to-end customer experience across multiple channels and customer touchpoints.

Supports the office with community relations.

Stays up to date with events happening at a national and international level.

Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Office of Communications:

Reviews existing website material to ensure it is current, grammatically correct and follows city style guidelines.

Ensure brand style and strategy compliance across the city's platforms.

Develops and writes articles for internal and external newsletters.

Creates, edits and posts new pages on city websites.

Creates, posts and engages users on social media.

Assists department representatives with technical issues on content and provide editing assistance.

Research web and social media trends to improve the quality of the city’s web platforms.

Maintains coordination with the Information Technology division by conducting periodic meetings to discuss common content and technical issues.

Solves problems in communication, technology and project management, using analytics to track social media and web engagement and troubleshooting and/or implementing new projects.

Performs other duties as may be assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in developing websites.

Knowledge in the operation of a computer and the use of computer software programs for creating website pages in a variety of formats.

Knowledge of basic web server and file system maintenance.

Knowledge in editing photos and preparing graphics for the web.

Skilled in project management.

Strong analytical skills.

Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and assign tasks to support personnel.

Ability to research and write short articles on City services and events.

Ability to organize and coordinate multiple, time-sensitive assignments, and to maintain work records.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
