Job Description
|
|
Performs professional-level work to create comprehensive, holistic programs for at-risk youth, including developing training/enrichment opportunities, employability skills, professional development, and health, wellness, and athletic programming. Develops relationships with community and corporate partners that help to support the mission and goals of the department. Conducts community outreach. Performs other related duties as assigned. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Children and Education Program Manager and reviewed through meetings, reports submitted, observation, and evaluation of results obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Public Health, Youth Development, or related field and three (3) years of experience coordinating or leading teams in the development of youth intervention and prevention programs, including development, health/wellness education, and/or other social programs; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Successful completion of a criminal background check required. Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Education, or related field desired.

Oversees multiple youth and young adult programs operated by the Families, Parks and Recreation Department, and coordinates the delivery of services offered by a broad coalition of partner organizations.
Sets Kidz Zone youth intern strategy to ensure proper development of student participants.
Assesses needs of youth interns; develops training calendar; and creates/conducts youth employment training.
Develops and maintains relationships with current and potential community partners in order to create employment and internship opportunities for youth interns.
Seeks out and develops mentoring opportunities for youth with partner organizations.
Creates opportunities which encourage students to increase physical activity.
Develops opportunities for youth to improve their health through comprehensive nutrition education.
Provides leadership and management in the development and administration of athletic activities.
Works with staff and community partners to identify any personal, financial, or educational deficiencies.
Identifies professional opportunities to expose youth to educational and career options.
Prepares reports and documents, maintains records, and makes appropriate recommendations.
Oversees and trains staff and volunteers assigned to youth employment program.
Identifies additional sources of funding to support youth development opportunities.
Assists with the development of marketing and public relations initiatives to promote the program.
Makes presentations to community groups; collaborates with partner organizations; and conducts workshops to train and create opportunities for local residents and others about intervention, prevention of at-risk behavior, and use of successful methods and techniques.
Prepares accurate reports and documentation; maintains records; and makes appropriate recommendations.
Collects data and enters data into inti ETO.
Oversees middle and high school programming at all Zone locations.
Meets with contract holders.
Oversees payments of contracts for the Zone; oversees afterschool meal program in the Zone; and schedules the van for the Zone. Has responsibilities for providing Cradle to End of Life Services for the Zone participants. Performs crisis intervention. May make referrals for economic assistance. Directs contact with Zone parents and students.
Manages budget.
Conducts community outreach; recruits students for the programs.
Evaluates programs; mentors students and families.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of youth development principles, available resources, and programs for servicing targeted at-risk youth.
Knowledge of the challenges faced by youth and their families who reside in high poverty and high crime neighborhoods.
Knowledge of methods of building community consensus and leading teams toward achievement of common goals.
Ability to lead community groups, persuade/inspire youth, and build meaningful relationships with disengaged youth.
Ability to develop, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate programs effectively.
Ability to negotiate effectively with other professionals and with representatives of collaborating community organizations.
Ability to research, analyze, and recommend appropriate course of action.
Ability to identify complex problems, evaluate situation, review options, resolve issues, make prudent decisions, and deal effectively with various and difficult situations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with others including managers, staff, clients, other agency specialists, and professionals, and the public.
Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
