Job Description

Performs skilled work trimming, pruning, and falling trees; removing diseased, broken, or hazardous limbs from trees; or the removing entire trees when required. Operates heavy trucks such as bucket trucks, claw loaders, etc. for trimming or removal of brush or wood. Work is performed under supervision of a crew leader and reviewed while in progress and upon completion for results obtained. Work is performed outdoors and employee is exposed to weather conditions, insects, and extreme heights. May be required to operate bucket truck.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and one (1) year experience in tree trimming to include knowledge of tree maintenance procedures, use of climbing saddle, pruning saw, chain saw, ropes and knots, chipper, and A-frame; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Class B CDL required.

Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Climbs trees with rope and saddle using various knots and procedures for hoisting.

Removes diseased, broken, or hazardous limbs from trees by using pruning saw, clipper, chain saw, block and tackle, and ropes.

Removes or trims brush and parasitic growth from trees.

Cuts large limbs and stacks for removal.

Operates a bucket truck for raising, dead wooding, or removal of trees.

Operates various heavy trucks as A-frame, winch, crane truck, and wood hauler to remove/transport wood and brush.

Grinds and stacks brush and wood using high speed brush chipper. Grinds stumps to complete tree removal process.

Cleans ground upon completion of removal of brush, limbs, and/or trees.

Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the safe use and operation of vehicles, equipment and tools used in the trimming/removal of trees and brush.

Knowledge of tree maintenance and procedures.

Ability to work at extreme heights, and in inclement weather.

Ability to climb trees and remove limbs using proper equipment and safety precautions.

Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.

Ability to bend and stoop, dig and pull, and reach over head.

Ability to visually recognize weaknesses and diseases in trees.

Ability to lift 50 lbs. to include heavy limbs in trimming, removal and loading procedures.

Ability to operate bucket truck, crane truck, craw loader, dump truck, chipper, and other various equipment used in tree trimming.
