Job Description
 

Performs advocacy work for the Orlando Police Department (OPD) providing support to substance abuse overdose victims and their families. Responsibilities include responding to overdose scenes to ensure that children, families of victims, and overdose survivors are connected to social services; providing guidance through the legal system as needed, maintaining logs of all visits, and maintaining the confidentiality of investigative information. Organizes special projects aimed at promoting awareness and prevention of opioid abuse. Work is performed under the direction of a Police Sergeant and reviewed through conferences, observation, and results achieved.

Required to work a flexible work schedule including weekends and evening hours. Primary days and core hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m..

Minimum Qualifications: Associate's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Substance Abuse Counseling, or related field and two (2) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License is required. Must pass a background check which includes a polygraph. Advanced education preferred.

Responds to overdose scenes to ensure that children, families of victims, and overdose survivors are connected to the correct social services.

Provides information for social services and treatment programs.

Maintains confidential client records and completes accurate daily documentation recording services provided and outcomes.

Writes and generates reports.
Coordinates special projects aimed at Opioid abuse, prevention, and awareness.

Attends meetings and training as provided.

Performs other duties as may be assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies regarding social service provision, and client rights.

Knowledge of advocacy principles and best practices.

Knowledge of community resources including functions of other social services agencies.

Skilled in providing support to individuals on short and long-term bases.

Skilled in oral and written communication.

Skilled in the operation of a computer and Microsoft Office Suites, and email.

Ability to develop and maintain effective professional work relationships and therapeutic
relationships and clients.

Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

Ability to prepare and deliver clear and concise written and oral reports.

Ability to analyze information to choose the best solution to solve problems.

Ability to work independently or team setting.

Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Ability to maintain the confidentiality of investigative information.
