Job Description

Performs professional, administrative, and technical work related to designing, building, implementing, and maintaining system platforms. These platforms include physical servers, server virtualization systems, and Storage Area Networks (SAN). Responsible for the maintenance of physical and virtual server systems, which may include assessing performance, completing regular maintenance, diagnosing issues, and repairing problems. The incumbent is also responsible for system backup and restore operations, as well as routine patching. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Network Support Manager and is subject to periodic review and evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field and six (6) years technical experience in IT, network management, and system administration; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience with Microsoft Active Directory (AD), storage area networks (SAN), server virtualization platforms, backup and restore solutions, Microsoft Server, Linux Server, and server patching required.

Additional Qualifications for Promotion:

Promotions are not to be considered an automatic function of longevity and are subject to the review and authorization of the Supervisor. The employee’s last performance review must have resulted in an overall rating of Meets standards or better with no factor rating of less than meets.

Responsibilities

Configures, implements, and maintains virtual server platform and all associated systems including software, hardware and applications

Configures, implements, and maintains server/data backup platform and all associated systems including software, hardware and applications

Configures, implements, and maintains Storage Area Network (SAN) platform and all associated systems including software, hardware and applications.

Performs capacity management and planning of SAN

Configures, implements, and maintains Microsoft Active Directory (AD) and all associated systems including software and applications

Conducts regular maintenance tasks such as scheduling updates, performing server OS upgrades and installing patches or service packs

Collaborates with third-party support services and service providers to ensure servers and systems are operating optimally

Performs other related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of data management and database technology

Knowledge of business unit vision and needs

Knowledge of specific constructs (tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures) of a database

Knowledge of IP networking concepts including but not limited to routing, switching, wireless (WiFi) and firewalls

Skilled in interpersonal, verbal and written communication to effectively communicate data, database and research information with a variety of business, management, and technical stakeholders

Ability to fully administrator IP networks including routing and switching

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and representatives of other agencies and companies
