Job Description

|
Performs lead work and participates in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic and mechanical parking meters and the collection of revenue from meters. Work is performed under the supervision of a Maintenance and Support Supervisor. Work is reviewed through reports submitted, observation, and results obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and one (1) year experience in electronic and mechanical meter and timer maintenance and repairs, plus six (6) months supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Knowledge of electronic and mechanical tools and equipment required. Polygraph examination required prior to employment. Completion of Duncan Meter Maintenance School desired.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Performs lead work, trains technicians, and performs electronic/mechanical meter maintenance, to include installation, removal, repair, and preventive maintenance of parking meter housings and locks, timing mechanisms and parking meter posts and electronic maintenance and repair of Dynameter system.
Operate and train technicians in use of hand held computers for programming, inventory, and maintenance of electronic parking meters.
Coordinates and participates in collection of revenue from City parking meters and Dynameters. Ensures safe operation of vehicle, proper procedures for handling of money and meter bank keys to maintain utmost security.
Coordinates covering and uncovering of meters for rental or leased parking meter spaces at contracted times or special events such as parades, road races, etc.
Ensures meter complaints as received from Parking Fines are handled promptly and, when necessary, appear in court to testify maintenance procedures were followed.
Coordinates/notifies O.P.D. of theft and vandalism of parking meters.
Ensures proper maintenance and safe operation of three (3) vehicles assigned.
Prepares all paperwork, such as bank deposit slips for collection of monies, work orders for rented and leased parking spaces; maintains meter complaint log, collection personnel schedule, parking lot utilization surveys, maintains parking meter location book, gas consumption weekly report for each vehicle.
Ensures all parts and chemicals for cleaning meter clocks, meters and equipment, are on hand and properly stored.
Performs other related duties as may be required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of safe use and operation of tools and other equipment used in repair/replacement of electronic and mechanical parking meters.
Knowledge of various parts, combinations, timing devices, and electronic/mechanical operation of parking meters.
Knowledge of traffic laws, occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision.
Knowledge of City streets.
Skill in performing mechanical repairs/adjustments to delicate timing mechanisms.
Skill in the operation of hand-held computer utilized for electronic parking meters.
Ability to effectively coordinate and schedule the work of subordinate personnel.
Ability to maintain records, gather data, and prepare reports.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to perform work requiring some physical strength; requires standing and walking for extended periods of time, lifting of heavy materials and equipment, and reaching overhead for collection of meters; may be exposed to adverse conditions such as inclement weather, traffic, chemicals and paint for cleaning/repairing meter housings.
