Job Description
 
Performs skilled mechanical work involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic and mechanical parking meters. Duties include collection of revenue from meters. Work is performed under direct supervision and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for accuracy and results obtained.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and one (1) year mechanical or electronic experience, preferably in meter maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Polygraph examination required prior to employment. Completion of Duncan Meter Maintenance School desired.
 
Responsibilities
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Operates hand held computer for programming inventory, audit, and maintenance of electronic parking meters.

Repairs and services defective and damaged electronic and mechanical meters by disassembling clock and timer mechanisms for cleaning, adjusting, and repair; performs coin check and calibration check for proper timing; and adjusts as necessary. Strips old meters; sands and prepares meter housings for painting; and paints and reassembles meters.

Converts meters from one time to another or from one rate to another by disassembling mechanisms and timers and changing selected parts.

Cleans, repairs, and paints meter housings.

Changes all lock combinations periodically for security purposes by disassembling locks and replacing selected series of discs.

Repairs or replaces parking meter posts as required; breaks concrete with jack hammer, drills new hole, mixes concrete, and sets new pole.

Collects money from meters and pay stations; repairs/replaces broken parts; in event of vandalism, notifies Orlando Police Department; prepares moneys for deposits; and delivers collection canisters/deposits to bank.

Maintains records of all daily activities performed.

Performs lot occupancy and turnover studies; gathers other data for parking surveys as required.

Drives collection truck on rotating basis.

May remove trash from municipal parking lots or operate tenant power sweeper in absence of skilled laborer.

May be required to appear in Civil Court as witness to condition of meter.

Assists with light mechanical repairs such as replacing broken traffic gate arms at Parking Garage.

Installs revamped and new parking meters; tests, disassembles, repairs, and adjusts parking meters and meter parts. Installs new parking meter posts and repairs damaged posts when necessary.

Maintains parking meter repairs and replacement records.

Updates parking meter signs as required.

Maintains inventory of parts and tools

Performs other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of safe use and operation of tools and other equipment used in repair/replacement of electronic and mechanical parking meters.

Knowledge of traffic laws, occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.

Knowledge of City streets.

Skill in performing mechanical repairs/adjustments to delicate timing mechanisms.

Skill in the operation of hand-held computer utilized for electronic parking meters.

Ability to maintain records and gather data.

Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.

Ability to perform work requiring some physical strength; requires standing and walking for extended periods of time, lifting of heavy materials and equipment, and reaching overhead for collection of meters; may be exposed to adverse conditions such as inclement weather, traffic, chemicals and paint for cleaning/repairing meter housings.
