Job Description
|
|
Performs professional public relations work for the City of Orlando’s Housing and Community Development (HCD) Department. Responsible for coordinating, developing, and implementing the communications, media, and public awareness for all HCD programs, services and events. Work is performed under the direction of the HCD Director and reviewed through meetings, reports, and results obtained. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Public Administration, or related field plus two (2) years experience in performing professional work in marketing and promotion; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

Develops and administers a comprehensive strategic marketing plan for HCD.
Develops, coordinates and implements innovative strategies to connect, inform and engage the public and targeted populations on housing programs, funding opportunities and events.
Prepare presentations, talking points, briefing sheets, and letters for the Mayor, Housing Director and Housing staff.
Produce, edit, manage and facilitate the distribution of educational material to promote Housing programs, funding opportunities, successes and progress, and to build community awareness of the City’s housing needs, conditions, initiatives and priorities.
Delivers presentations and represents the Housing Department at community meetings and events.
Maintain website.
Prepares technical data and reports.
Coordinate events such as ribbon-cuttings, groundbreakings, work-a-longs, special appearances, etc. for HCD.
Duties require the exercise of considerable initiative and independent judgement.
Interacts with a wide range of organizations and constituents to educate and build awareness of the mission and priorities of the City of Orlando Housing Programs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of marketing principles and advertising and promotion techniques.
Knowledge of latest marketing trends and social media management capabilities.
Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations relating to the management of public assemblies.
Knowledge of the City’s mission, goals and business model.
Knowledge of City’s policies and procedures.
Knowledge of City government and public records laws.
Knowledge of communities throughout the city.
Skilled in verbal communication both oral and written.
Skilled in clear and concise written and verbal communications.
Skilled in public speaking and presenting.
Skilled in research techniques, report generation, presentation and project management.
Skilled in operation of a computer, Microsoft Office Suite, and various communications software and equipment.
Skilled in operating web conferencing platforms used for audio and/or video conferencing. (ZOOM and MS TEAMS)
Skilled in time management in regard to deadlines of multiple projects.
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines while under pressure.
Ability to work without direct supervision.
Ability to write and produce clear and concise reports, publications, memorandums, and letters.
Ability to engage and interact with the public and deliver effective presentations.
Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone (orally and in writing).
Ability to work independently planning, initiating and completing assignments.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, officials, outside agencies, and the general public.
Ability to work nights and weekends, as needed.
Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, to speak clearly and concisely, to hear and listen, read, write, and edit, lift 20 lbs., pull, push, bend and stoop.
