Job Description

|
Performs specialized paraprofessional and administrative work for the Families, Parks and Recreation (FPR) Department. In collaboration with the Parks Manager, an employee assigned to this classification is responsible for assisting in the planning, development, management, and implementation of the Nature education program including special events, summer camp, et cetera. Work is performed under the general direction of the Park Manager. Performance is reviewed through reports, observation, and results achieved. Work is sometimes performed outdoors, and the employee may be exposed to insects and adverse weather conditions. The employee may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Environmental Science, Education, Biology, or related field and three (3) years experience in developing educational programs; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Level II background check required.

Participates in the development, planning, organizing, and directing of special programs designed to meet the City’s nature education program initiatives.
Plans and coordinates environment/nature program, experiences and events for students, park customers, campers, summer camps etc.
Coordinates and schedules speakers and special guests for events.
Researches and updated curriculum for summer camp program.
Registers event and summer camp participants.
Develops and implements activities and experiences that foster nature and the environment.
Provides leadership in the articulation of specialized education programs and implements assigned programs and /or projects.
Organizes and enhances all educational materials, kits and guides.
Assists in hiring, assigning work and schedules, training, and evaluation of Seasonal staff.
Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records for the purpose of complying with City Policies and department procedures. Document attendance of education programs and special events.
Answers emails and phone calls in regards to events and programs.
Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of City, department, and park policies and procedures
Knowledge of conducting and coordinating a specialized program in environmental education.
Working knowledge of instructional techniques.
Skilled in public speaking and presentation.
Excellent organizational, and communication skills.
Skilled in the use of computers, software and other office equipment.
Strong written, verbal, interpersonal communications and presentation skills required.
Ability to create and implement nature educational programs.
Ability to organize and plan activities for children and adults.
Ability to successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
Ability to communicate and work with diverse groups of participants (age and skill levels).
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
Ability to work both inside and outside and may include work in adverse weather with outside environment, heights and exposures. Position involves exposure to all types of weather, air conditioning and heating systems.
Works includes standing, stooping, kneeling, pull, pushing, bending and lifting at least 20 pounds with the ability to perform essential functions of the job satisfactorily.
The regular work schedule may include weekends and holidays.
