Job Description
|
|
Performs professional, administrative, and technical work related to designing, building, implementing, and maintaining the computer networks businesses and/organizations use. These networks may include the phone system, intranet, extranet, and more. Responsible for the maintenance of these essential systems which may include assessing performance, completing regular maintenance, diagnosing issues, and repairing problems. Works in a team environment, as well as autonomously, to resolve problems efficiently and expeditiously while focusing on department goals and objectives to deliver timely and accurate information to the decision-makers and operational teams. Work is performed under general supervision of the Network Support Manager and is subject to periodic review and evaluation.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field and three (3) years of technical IT experience, network management, and system administration experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. IP networking, routing, switching, and firewall management experience preferred.
Additional Qualifications for Promotion:
Promotions are not to be considered an automatic function of longevity and are subject to the review and authorization of the Supervisor. The employee’s last performance review must have resulted in an overall rating of Meets standards or better with no factor rating of less than meets.

Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Maintains computer networks and all associated systems including software, hardware and applications
Maintains firewalls, updating virus protection software, implementing data security systems and performing data backups to protect important information
Installs and configures network equipment such as routers, switches, load balancers, VPNs, WAN accelerators and proxy servers
Performs ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting to find innovative ways to improve network performance
Conducts regular maintenance tasks such as scheduling updates, performing network upgrades, managing security configurations and installing patches or service packs
Collaborates with third-party support services and service providers to ensure networks are operating optimally
Performs other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of data management and database technology
Knowledge of business unit vision and needs
Knowledge of specific constructs (tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures) of a database
Knowledge of IP networking concepts including but not limited to routing, switching, wireless (WiFi) and firewalls
Skilled in interpersonal, verbal and written communication required to effectively communicate data, database and research information with a variety of business, management, and technical stakeholders
Ability to think independently to fully administrator IP networks including routing and switching
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and representatives of other agencies and companies
