Job Description
 
Performs professional marketing and communications work. Responsible for the development and implementation of marketing programs, communications programs, and public awareness through a variety of methods and content creation. Work is performed under the direction of the manager and reviewed through meetings, reports submitted, and evaluations of results obtained. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Public Administration, or related field plus two (2) years experience performing professional work in marketing and promotion; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required.

Under direction, develops and implements marketing, media, and communications plans through media relations, and social communications to a variety of audiences.

Duties require the exercise of considerable initiative and independent judgment.

Updates the department’s website.

Responsible for fulfilling event sponsorship deliverables.

Responsible for copywriting and editing for advertorials, newsletters, collateral, media alerts, press releases, etc.

Produce, edit, manage, and facilitate the distribution of promotional material designed to connect, inform, and engage residents on programs, services, and activities.

Interacts with a wide range of organizations and constituents to educate and build awareness of the mission and priorities of the City of Orlando.

Delivers presentations and represents the department at community meetings and events.

Prepares technical data and reports.

May assign and evaluate the work of seasonal employees.

Performs other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of marketing principles and advertising and promotion techniques.

Knowledge of the latest marketing trends and social media management capabilities.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations relating to the management of public assemblies.

Knowledge of the City’s mission, goals, and business model.

Knowledge of City government and public records laws.

Knowledge of communities throughout the city.

Skilled in clear and concise written and verbal communication.

Skilled in public speaking and presentations.

Skilled in research techniques, report generation, and project management.

Skilled in time management regarding deadlines of multiple projects.

Skilled in the operation of a computer, Microsoft Office Suite, and various communications software and office equipment.

Skilled in operating web conferencing platforms used for audio and/or video conferencing.

Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines while under pressure.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

 Ability to handle complex and confidential information with discretion.

Ability to write and produce clear and concise reports, publications, memorandums, and letters.

Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone, orally and in writing.

Ability to organize and supervise the work of Seasonal personnel as assigned.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, officials, outside agencies, and the public.

Ability to work nights and weekends.

Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, to speak clearly and concisely, and to hear and listen.
