Job Description
 
Performs managerial and professional work; plans, directs, and oversees the operations of the Communications team consisting of the following specialized areas: multimedia (video, photography, editing, and AV set up), graphic design, interactive programs (web and social media), and special events. Responsibilities include: performing professional public relations on behalf of the Office of the Mayor and the City's operating departments; the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic communication plans to market and promote the Mayor's key priorities and the City initiatives, programs, and services; managerial functions of overseeing a team of graphic designers, multimedia producers, event managers, and digital communicators who manage the City's website and social media policy/accounts; and managing those respective budgets. Duties require: the exercise of considerable initiative and independent judgment in strategic communications; the planning and marketing of events; reviewing contracts; budgeting; managing assigned personnel; the procurement of resources; handling special projects; establishing media relations; public speaking; developing writing/talking points, scripts, and promotional materials; conducting editorial review and quality control; and dealing with elected/appointed officials, promoters, clients, other City departments/internal staff, and the local community.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Administration, or a related field plus a minimum of four (4) years experience performing professional and supervisory work in the areas of event planning/management, multimedia (video, photography and editing); interactive programs (Web, social media and content management systems); graphic design; marketing and promotions; program budgeting; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Oversees the overall operations of the Communications Team including interactive programs, multimedia, graphics, and special events.

Establishes, implements, and manages the team's core services (budget, marketing plan, and staffing plans) in accordance with the City's strategic mission and vision.

Develops and implements internal/external policies and procedures.

Develops website and social media strategies.

Develops multimedia assets

Performs other duties as assigned.
