Job Description
|
|
Performs professional and supervisory marketing and communications work. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for the planning and oversight of the Families, Parks, and Recreation (FPR) marketing and communications programs. Work is performed under the direction of the Department Director and is reviewed through meetings, reports submitted, and evaluations of results obtained. The incumbent must be able to work nights and weekends as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Public Administration, or related field plus three (3) years of experience in performing professional work in marketing and promotion, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A valid Florida Driver’s License is required.

Responsibilities

Supervises the Families, Parks, and Recreation (FPR) Communications Team, setting goals and objectives, manages team’s marketing and staffing plans.
Develops and implements communication and marketing plans for FPR initiatives, services, projects, and events to inform and educate internal and external audiences.
Develops communications strategy, including content and messaging, to inform and educate internal and external audiences utilizing social media, internet, email, newsletters, print, and digital signage, and press releases.
Develops staff through coaching, counseling, mentoring and extends to team building, encouraging employee participation, quality improvement, customer service and cost containment.
Provides details of goods and services to grantor to show grant requirements are met.
Plans and implements events such as groundbreakings, grand openings, ribbon cuttings, celebrations, and fundraisers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of media, community and public relations principles and practices as well as emerging media.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations relating to the management of public assemblies.
Knowledge of social media platforms, branding, graphics design concepts and special event planning and promotion.
Knowledge of the City’s mission, goals, and business model.
Knowledge of the operation of a computer and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint).
Knowledge of City government and public records laws.
Skilled in personnel management and public administration.
Skilled in time management regarding deadlines of multiple projects.
Skilled at collecting and interpreting metrics to influence communication planning.
Skilled in creative thinking and problem solving.
Ability to lead and manage a communications team effectively through multiple projects and events.
Ability to manage projects with the ability to pivot and improvise, with proper attention to urgency, responsiveness, and accuracy.
Ability to convey information in clear, compelling ways across multiple platforms, including print, digital and media.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, officials, outside agencies, and the public.
Ability to uncover opportunities through customer care.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
