|
Performs highly responsible administrative and managerial work involving My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) initiative for the City of Orlando. Is responsible for the City’s MBK initiative, including coordinating, leading, evaluating, and overseeing the operation of MBK grantee and partner organizations that offer a wide range of services on a daily basis to City children and youth, including after school/summer programs, tutoring, mentoring, youth employment, and cultural arts programs. Manages complex special projects for the Department. Supervises and coaches staff. Work is performed under the administrative direction of the Director of Families, Parks and Recreation (FPR) and is reviewed through conferences, observation, and results achieved.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, Education, Youth Development, African American Studies, Public Policy, or related field and four (4) years experience in a responsible administrative /management capacity implementing programs for youth, community organizing, events and/or public affairs management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Master's Degree preferred.

Manages and coordinates the City of Orlando’s MBK functions including coordinating, leading, and overseeing the operation of MBK grantee and partner organizations.
Carries out on-going donor development activities to raise funds for MBK and other FPR programs.
Manages MBK’s media, marketing, events, and community relations functions.
Supervises staff, contractors, as well as other staff who work in the Families, Parks and Recreation Director's Office.
Manages complex special projects for the Department.
Reviews and makes recommendations on Department-wide management issues.
Makes presentations before the Orlando City Council as needed.
Serves as City liaison on various Mayoral task forces and planning committees related to Mayoral special events or projects. Serves as a City Liaison on various subcommittees, community groups, task forces, and school district committees to discuss community improvement opportunities for boys and young men of color.
Interfaces with leaders from business, faith-based, governmental, school, non-profit, civic, philanthropic, and neighborhood organizations in order to foster positive community, school, and business relations for the City.
Collaborates with MBK Florida Alliance to develop and implement initiatives to support boys and young men of color across Florida. Advocates for policies and programs that address systemic barriers and promote equity and opportunity for boys and young men of color. Facilitates networking and collaboration opportunities among MBK programs and stakeholders to enhance collective impact and sustainability. Engages with state and local government agencies, nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations to leverage resources and support for MBK initiatives. Monitors and evaluates the impact of MBK programs and initiatives across the state and identifies opportunities for improvement and innovation.
Represents the City of Orlando on various boards, community coalitions, professional organizations, and events.
Conducts comprehensive program evaluations to assess program impact, effectiveness, and sustainability; develops reports summarizing program accomplishments, outcomes, needs assessments, and SWOT analysis; reviews and updates the MBK program work plan and goals based on feedback from stakeholders and evaluation findings; and conducts performance evaluations for program staff and develops professional development plans.
Conducts check-ins with program supervisors to assess progress and address any operational issues; conducts team meetings to discuss program goals, progress, upcoming events, challenges, or opportunities; compiles and analyzes program data to prepare reports on program outcomes, participant demographics, and key performance indicators; and shares this information with the MBK team.
Identifies and attends conferences, workshops, and professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices and trends in supporting boys and young men of color.
Collaborates with the program supervisor to develop an annual budget and funding plan; reviews program budget and expenses, ensuring fiscal responsibility and compliance with funding requirements; coordinates with external stakeholder to schedule meetings, presentations, or partnership opportunities based on the developed budget; and meets with program stakeholders, including funders, community partners, and advisory committees, to provide updates on program activities and solicit feedback.
Collaborates with the internal grants administrator to develop and implement the MLK Community Collaborative Grant Initiative; develops and maintains relationships with funders, donors, and sponsors through regular communication, meetings, and updates on program activities and impact. Reviews and responds to funding announcements, requests for proposals (RFPs), and grant opportunities relevant to the needs and priorities of community partners; collaborates with program staff and community partners to develop grant proposals, budgets, and project plans that align with funder requirements and program objectives; and provides technical assistance and support to community partners in grant writing, budget development, and proposal submission processes. Tracks and monitors grant deadlines, reporting requirements, and deliverables to ensure timely submission and compliance with funder expectations. Advocates for funding and resources to support the sustainability and growth of programs serving boys and young men of color within the community.
Provides strategic guidance and support to MBK programs and initiatives nationwide, including advocacy efforts, policy development, and program implementation; collaborates with national and local partners to advance the goals and objectives of the MBK initiative; develops and disseminates resources, toolkits, and best practices to support the implementation of MBK programs and initiatives; convenes conferences and events to facilitate networking, collaboration, and learning among MBK stakeholders; and amplifies the voices and stories of boys and young men of color through storytelling, media campaigns, and advocacy efforts. Advocates for policy changes and investments at the national level to address systemic barriers and promote equity and opportunity for boys and young men of color; collaborates with other MBK communities to monitor and evaluate the impact of MBK programs and initiatives nationwide and provide feedback and recommendations for improvement.
Determines the staffing needs and organizational structure for the MBK program; considers factors such as program size, scope, and funding availability; and collaborates with the program supervisor to conduct interviews to determine viable candidates to support program goals.
Identifies local, state, federal, foundation, and philanthropic grant opportunities to expand programs for boys and young men of color.
Performs contract management for various community partnerships through the development of memorandums of understanding, contracts,
Assists in the preparation of the annual operating budget for approval by the FPR Director, City Council, and Boards of Directors of various recurring funding sources; coordinates the funding and procurement of supplies and equipment, staffing expenses, and the maintenance and utilization of three City issued vehicles.
Creates and develops unique programming aimed at young people at risk for or with histories of violence, substance abuse, high school dropout, or criminal involvement; implements policies and programming implemented to affect decreases in disciplinary referrals, suspensions, expulsions, and involvement in the juvenile justice system; and develops and manages the program budget.
Manages operational components of federal, state, and local grant funding (FL-Department of Children and Families, Department of Justice (DOJ) - Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency and Prevention, and Orlando City Soccor). This includes supporting the Division Manager in ensuring compliance with grant deliverables and completing evaluation reports.
