Job Description
 

Performs administrative and professional work assisting in identifying needs and developing and implementing community outreach and engagement plans for Orlando’s diverse populations, including ethnic, minority and marginalized communities in the City of Orlando. Additionally, this role requires a bilingual professional individual, with English and Spanish proficiency (speaking, reading and writing,) and supports the city’s efforts in promoting and advancing diversity and inclusion through the execution of services, programs and events targeted to residents from diverse cultural backgrounds, faith beliefs and walks of life. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Multicultural Affairs Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Political Science, Public Administration or related field, A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in government administration and/or communications and public relations industries, with (2) years’ experience in developing and administering community outreach and public relations programs targeting minority and diverse populations; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

•    Responds to phone calls, emails and requests from city residents, visitors, businesses and multiethnic community organizations.

•    Fully bilingual professional in English and Spanish proficiency (speaking, reading and writing.) and good communication skills. Haitian Creole proficiency is a plus.

•    Event planning, logistics and promotion of city signature events that celebrate our community’s diversity, including Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Juneteenth, Iftar Dinner, Pride Parade, among others.

•    Research minority community demographics, needs, issues and trends, and making recommendations to improve the city services and program's effectiveness in serving diverse groups.

•    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with city employees, elected officials, community leaders, business executives, public officials, and residents.

•    Attend community events on evenings and weekends to represent the city’s Multicultural Affairs Office.

•    Interact professionally and empathically with culturally diverse individuals from all walks of life and faith beliefs.

•    Ability to support the city's efforts related to the Pulse Memorial, including engagement with impacted communities and logistic coordination.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•    Knowledge of City of Orlando demographics and understanding the issues of our multiethnic communities.

•    Vast knowledge of the meaning of diversity, equity and inclusion and offer ideas and recommendations for the implementation of educational programs, initiatives, and events for the City to continue promoting them.

•    Knowledge of Local, state and national laws that apply to diverse populations.

•    Fully bilingual professional in English and Spanish proficiency (speaking, reading and writing.) and good communication skills.

•    Writing, translation and interpretation skills (English-Spanish.)

•    Culturally competent professional to interact with residents from different cultural backgrounds, walks of life, faith beliefs, sexual orientations and gender identities.

•    Knowledge of social media and creating marketing campaigns for city multicultural events and programs.

•    Skilled in researching minority community demographics, needs, issues and trends, and making recommendations to improve the city services and program's effectiveness to diverse groups.

•    Event planning skills.

•    Project management skills.

•    Event planning abilities to support the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the City of Orlando in the coordination of large-scale multicultural events and programs, such as the Pulse Memorial, Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Iftar Dinner and Pride Month.

•    Computer program and administrative abilities.

•    Excellent customer service to diverse audiences.

•    Good communication skills at local community outreach events.

•    High-level of professionalism, work ethic and respect.
