Job Description
|
|
Performs skilled, journey level work in the painting of buildings, structures, furniture, and equipment. Work assignments are ordinarily in the form of written job orders but may be received orally. Work is performed in accordance with standard trade practices and is reviewed through direct observation, while in progress, and upon completion.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and two (2) years painting experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Must pass respirator physical; no facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator. Home phone or cell phone number required within time limit set by Division.
WASTEWATER LIFT STATIONEmployees assigned to this section must obtain and maintain a security clearance and GOAA ID badge within ninety (90) days of hire date.

Responsibilities
|
|
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Prepares surfaces by removing paint by use of burns, sandpaper, scrapers, sanders, liquid paint remover, brushes, or sandblasting; fills cracks, crevices, and holes with putty, plaster, caulking, or other materials.
Mixes and matches paints and stains.
Applies paint, varnish, enamel, and other protective coatings to interior and exterior of buildings, furniture, equipment pipes and other fixtures, or structures using brushes, rollers, or air spray gun.
Performs minor repairs on doors, windows, and roofs.
Protects shrubbery, equipment, floors, and furniture by placing drop cloths during painting.
Cleans equipment using soap and water, turpentine, or other cleaning solvents; cleans work area; and maintains tools and equipment in proper working order.
Prepares estimates of time and materials required for assigned tasks and maintains simple records.
Operates City vehicles to: transport tools and materials to and from job sites; to pick up tools and materials from local vendors; or for property control (or their designee).
May supervise and instruct entry level painters and unskilled helpers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and practices of the painting trade.
Knowledge of occupational safety and health hazards.
Skill in applying paint to buildings, structures, furniture and equipment which may involve working from ladders, high reach equipment, bending, stooping, and lifting.
Skill in the care and use of paint brushes and other tools of the painting trade (e.g. paint sprayer, high reach and pressure washer) which may involve exposure to chemicals and noxious fumes.
Skill in mixing paints and in matching and blending colors.
Skill in the application of paints and other finishes to structures with brush, roller, or spray gun. May involve standing and walking for extended periods and working in extreme weather conditions.
Ability to work from scaffolding, ladder jacks, and planks.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays when required (Wastewater Department).
