Job Description

|
Performs skilled technical and mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of engines, pumps, and electrical equipment at several lift stations throughout the City of Orlando. Work is performed under the supervision of a lift station supervisor and is reviewed through direct observation, logs, and system operation. Routine work is performed independently, but complex tasks may be closely supervised. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as business needs dictate.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and three (3) years experience in lift station operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must pass annual respirator physical; no facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator. Must possess a valid Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association (FW&PCOA) Level 2 Wastewater Collection Technician Certificate, a valid Florida Driver's License, and a home phone or cell phone. Valid Limited Certification issued through the State of Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services to allow Lift Station Operators to spray chemical weed killer (such as 'Round-Up') for weed control required within one (1) year of hire/promotion.
WASTEWATER LIFT STATIONEmployees assigned to this section must obtain and maintain a security clearance and GOAA ID badge within ninety (90) days of hire date.

Responsibilities
|
|
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Inspects and tests pumps, motors, compressors, valves, control systems, and related equipment to ensure they're working properly.
Sprays chemical weed-killer (such as Round-Up) at specific lift station grounds for landscape weed control (following all requirements identified by the State of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services).
Performs minor mechanical repairs; cleans engines; lubricates equipment; and checks fluid levels in batteries, radiators, etc.
Sets and resets pumps, valves, motors, controls, and switches to ensure proper operation.
Maintains records of inspections including any malfunction and length of time pumps are in operation.
Performs routine custodial tasks such as cleaning and scrubbing floors, dusting surfaces, routine housekeeping tasks, and lawn maintenance.
Notifies supervisor of unusual conditions such as overheated motors.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of operation of heavy pumping equipment.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of hydraulic equipment operations.
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures in lift stations.
Skilled in the operation of personal computer using Microsoft Windows XP or later and Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Ability to prepare and maintain complete and accurate records.
Ability to read and understand gauges and meters.
Ability to operate medium size vehicle, tow and back trailers.
Ability to work around moving equipment and engines and in confined areas.
Ability to handle exposure to methane and butane gases, wet wells, and bacteria.
Ability to inspect lift stations which involves frequent bending, stooping, climbing and occasional lifting as well as being exposed to noxious fumes, insects, and extreme weather conditions.
