Job Description
|
|
Performs skilled maintenance work in the care of special Parks facilities. Is responsible for the performance of a variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of parks buildings, facilities, and equipment which requires general knowledge of maintenance functions, skill in the use of hand power tools, and the ability to operate medium and heavy equipment such as water trucks, tractors, dump trucks, tree spades, and/or front-end loaders. Work is performed outdoors and the employee is exposed to weather conditions, insects, and various chemicals. Work is performed with limited supervision and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and two (2) years experience in grounds or general building maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Operates trucks, tractors, riding mowers, and other specialized equipment to mow and spray water and use fertilizer in designated areas.
Maintains and repairs main water wells; checks, lubricates, and performs minor repairs to pumps and motors; tests water; and reads meters.
Performs general maintenance and routine repair of buildings, facilities, and equipment including carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical work.
Maintains ground sprinkler systems; installs pipes; and repairs/replaces sprinkler heads.
Operates a variety of power and hand tools to perform grounds maintenance; examines plants, shrubs, and trees for control of disease and plant infestation; prunes as required to enhance development; and transplants plant material as required.
Provides daily care for animals by feeding and cleaning barn and pens.
Runs sod cutters, front-end loaders, chipper trucks, stump grinders, and tree augers.
Provides maintenance and repair of park hardscapes to those sections with buildings and facilities.
Prepares and assists with hurricane response; is considered to be an essential worker position.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of maintenance and safe operation of light, medium, and heavy equipment.
Knowledge of standards, tools, methods, materials, and work practices of various trades such as electrical, painting, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanics.
Knowledge of principles and practices of disc golf course maintenance.
Knowledge of standard operation and maintenance of lift stations.
Knowledge of principles and practices of grounds maintenance including knowledge of plant diseases and infestations.
Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in maintenance and cleaning of buildings and property.
Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of animal care and feeding.
Knowledge of occupational safety and health hazards.
Skilled in the proper use and care of hand and power tools.
Ability to operate pickup truck, tractors, riding mowers, and small power equipment.
Ability to walk for extended periods of time over uneven terrain.
Ability to lift and carry heavy material and perform manual labor for extended periods of time.
Ability to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled assignments associated with building and facility maintenance and repair.
Ability to diagnose malfunctions and perform required repairs.
Ability to recognize disease/illness in plants/animals.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
