|
Performs unskilled manual labor duties in a variety of construction and maintenance projects throughout City buildings, grounds and other properties to be specified by Department. Work is assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor and is inspected for quality and productivity. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to read, write, and follow instructions. Some laborer experience in area assigned desired. Some positions may require a valid Florida Driver's License and home telephone. Some positions may be required to pass an annual respirator physical; no facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator face plate.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Constructs, repairs. and maintains baseball, softball, soccer, and other types of athletic fields.
Cleans sidewalks, awnings, buildings, and other recreation facilities using pressure cleaners.
Participates in preparation of facility for various events; sets up and arranges tables, chairs, and equipment as instructed; and breaks down, cleans, and stores materials.
May operate forklift, pickup truck, and related equipment.
Cleans carpeted and vinyl floors by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, shampooing or stripping, waxing, and polishing using floor scrubbers, buffers, carpet cleaners, and related janitorial equipment.
Cleans windows, walls, restrooms, and office furniture and equipment by dusting, washing down, and polishing surfaces; keeps restrooms stocked with soap, towels, and tissue; and empties trash containers and replaces plastic liners.
Performs general maintenance tasks such as minor painting, replacement of damaged ceiling tiles and light bulbs, etc. May apply roof sealer with spray and paint.
Performs routine grounds maintenance activities such as mowing and edging lawns; planting and trimming hedges in parks, athletic fields, and other recreation facilities using riding and/or push mowers and other hand and power tools; and may assist with the installation of irrigation systems.
Services and performs minor maintenance such as greasing, lubricating, and cleaning of tools and equipment; checks fluid levels on equipment; and services batteries.
May assist street maintenance crews in removing and compacting earth with shovels, clearing debris, picking up litter, and carrying tools and equipment.
Assists in the repair of streets, drainage, and utility line systems; assists in building forms for culverts, curbing, sidewalks, and manholes; mixes and pours concrete; raises manhole covers; mixes mortar for laying brick to build inlets and manholes; rakes and tamps asphalt; and compacts asphalt with steel wheel roller. Replaces gate arms.
Installs flow recorders, ground water gauges and meters, rainfall gauges, and other monitoring equipment in manholes to locate, identify, and quantify the ground waters entering the sanitary sewer system.
Performs routine maintenance and servicing on vehicles and motorized equipment by checking fluid levels and adding gasoline, oil, water, coolants, etc.; greases and lubricates pumps, valves, etc.; and checks and services tires and batteries.
Cleans vehicles, equipment, tools, and facilities by washing down surfaces using pressure cleaners, sweeping, mopping, and polishing floors; replenishes supplies in rest rooms; and performs routine maintenance such as replacing light fixtures, minor painting and carpentry, etc.
Mows grass with small powered, self-propelled riding mowers; operates chains; loads and unloads trucks with tools and materials for transport to and from work sites; assembles and prepares equipment and tools for excavating, digging, and repairing water/drainage lines and street curb/ surface improvements. Assists with maintaining a garden.
Operates jack hammer, pavement breaker, and related equipment assisting in the replacement and maintenance of storm drainage lines.
Loads and unloads trucks of tools, materials, and/or debris collected at sites.
May clean area lakes in the City that may have debris or trash.
May go out and assist when there is an accident (Setting up cones, clearing debris, etc.).
May participate in the repair, maintenance, construction, and/or rehabilitation of manholes.
Depending on assigned area: mixes, pours, and spreads concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials for the construction of streets, sidewalks, and curbs; uses portable mixer, air compressor, concrete saw, and various hand tools; and assists wastewater by following them from behind and assisting with laying the asphalt.
Is responsible for recreation center maintenance as well as all other parks, related facilities, and equipment. Performs a variety of tasks in the upkeep, cleaning, construction, maintenance, and/or repair of related facilities.
Conducts supply audits; submits supply requests; orders supplies; and receives inventory.
Moves furniture.
Installs door locks and door closers; installs signs on walls.
Inspects and reports safety and security concerns.
May oversee community service workers.
Answers phones; takes messages.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of cleaning methods and skilled in the use of cleaning chemicals and care of janitorial equipment and materials.
Knowledge of the use and care of power tools and small power equipment.
Knowledge of safety rules and regulations related to facility maintenance operations.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees.
Ability to operate forklift, geni lift, utility vehicle, floor scrubbers, buffers, floor strippers, high reach, and carpet cleaning equipment.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and simple written instructions.
Ability to perform manual labor such as pushing, pulling, and lifting.
Ability to walk and stand for extended periods, often under hot and humid environmental conditions along with exposure to insects and chemicals.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs+
Ability to climb and work from ladders or personnel/geni lift.
