Job Description
|
|
Performs routine janitorial work with responsibility for directing and overseeing the work of one to two (1-2) members of the janitorial staff. Work is performed under the supervision of a Facility Maintenance Supervisor. Performance is reviewed upon completion through inspections of offices.
Minimum Qualifications:
One (1) year janitorial experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Ability to read, write, and follow instructions required.
OPD: Previous janitorial experience desired; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must pass police background investigation which includes polygraph. Ability to read, write, and follow instructions required.

Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Sweeps and mops floors; dusts and polishes furniture; and cleans interior windows, mirrors, light switches, and restroom fixtures.
Keeps restrooms stocked with paper towels, toilet tissue, seat covers, sanitary napkins, and soap.
Coordinates and makes arrangements for special cleaning requests.
Monitors janitorial supply inventory and advises supervisor when replacements are needed.
Inspects offices to ensure they're cleaned properly and reports deficiencies to the supervisor.
Directs and oversees the activities of other janitorial personnel; maintains time and attendance records.
For OPD: Escorts vendors; assists with staff access when scanning of badges is not available; manages recycling program; stocks bottled water in police breakrooms; changes linen in police sleeping quarters; sanitizes police gym facilities; restocks gym supplies; receives custodial supply deliveries and checks for discrepancies; cleans car wash station vacuum; and may need to perform bio-hazard cleanup in interview rooms and police vehicles.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of janitorial supplies and materials.
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their proper application.
Some knowledge of inventory control.
Ability to direct the activities of others and to relay information in a clear manner.
Ability to prepare and maintain simple records.
Ability to perform light to moderate lifting and considerable walking and standing, bending, stooping, and reaching overhead to perform cleaning activities.
Ability to operate vacuum cleaners, floor buffers and other janitorial equipment.
