Job Description
 
CENTROPLEX: Performs limited supervisory and semi-skilled manual work involving the preparation, change-over, and general maintenance of entertainment or convention facilities, grounds, and athletic fields. Employees assigned to this classification perform a variety of tasks involving above-average physical effort and operate power tools and equipment requiring some manipulative skills and the ability to work without frequent supervision. Work is performed under moderate supervision of Facility Superintendent and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct observation, meetings, and review of work orders to ensure accuracy and completeness.

PUBLIC WORKS: Performs limited supervisory and semi-skilled manual work involving the: construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, roadways, drainage, and utility lines and systems; cleaning of buildings and other public facilities; and landscaping and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, and rights-of-way. Employees assigned to this classification perform a variety of tasks involving above-average physical effort and operation of power tools and equipment requiring some manipulative skills. Work is assigned and carried out according to oral and written instructions, usually from a crew leader or a field supervisor, and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct observation, meetings, and review of work orders to ensure quality and timeliness.

STREETS/STORMWATER: Performs limited supervision of lead workers and semi-skilled/unskilled manual work. This includes removal of litter, recycling material, and any other kind of debris from street rights-of-way, ditches, canals, lakes and basins, or assigned areas. Oversees the training for use of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). This includes setting up a course for training individuals to become proficient at operating an ATV that is used daily on rights-of-way. Employees assigned to this classification perform a variety of tasks involving above-average physical effort and operation of power tools and equipment requiring some manipulative skills. Work is assigned and carried out according to oral and written instructions, usually from a crew leader or a field supervisor, and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct observation, meetings, and review of work orders to ensure quality and timeliness. Work hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Weekend work is required throughout the year.

CYS: Performs limited supervisory and semi-skilled work involving: the maintenance of grounds, flowers and plants, athletic fields, and landscaped areas; and/or general maintenance of community recreation facilities. Employees assigned to this classification perform a variety of tasks involving above-average physical effort, and operation of power tools and equipment requiring some manipulative skills and the ability to work without frequent supervision. Work is usually performed under moderate supervision of a crew leader or a field supervisor and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct observation, meetings, and review of work orders to ensure accuracy and completeness.

ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES: Performs limited supervisory and semi-skilled manual work involving general maintenance and repair of wastewater collection systems, facilities, and grounds. Employees assigned to this classification perform a variety of tasks involving above-average physical effort and operation of power tools and equipment requiring some manipulative skills and frequent exposure to chemicals, noxious fumes, raw sewage and garbage, and extreme weather conditions. Work is assigned and carried out according to oral and written instructions, usually from an assistant supervisor or field supervisor and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct observation, meetings, and review of work orders to ensure quality and timeliness.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED; two (2) years of experience in assigned area; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

STREETS/STORMWATER: High school diploma/GED; two (2) years of experience in assigned area or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Computer operation and software skills required to retrieve and closeout work requests. Required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Florida Driver's License required.

Florida Restricted Pesticide License may be required, depending on assignment. Florida Driver's License, Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and home telephone number may be required, depending on assignment.
 
Responsibilities
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Serves as lead worker over a small crew of maintenance workers by organizing, laying out, and explaining assignments; obtaining necessary materials, tools, and equipment; and inspecting work upon completion to ensure completeness and accuracy.

Directs and/or assists with sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, shampooing as well as stripping, waxing, and polishing of floors and fixtures to ensure facility is clean and safe; uses scrubbers, buffers, carpet cleaners, and related janitorial equipment.

Directs and/or assists with dusting, washing, and polishing of walls, rest rooms, office furniture, and equipment. Ensures rest rooms are stocked with soap, towels, and tissue and that trash containers are emptied and properly cleaned.

May maintain records, complete requisitions, and maintain supply inventory.

Assigns and maintains quality control of custodial tasks.

Assists crew in completing tasks and assignments.

Schedules City staff and first-step employees appropriately due to the high volume of events.

Under general supervision, performs maintenance activities on the parking garages and parking lots by cleaning and maintaining elevators, floors, walls, windows, and offices.

Makes recommendations and completes appropriate paperwork/work orders for supervisory review.

Identifies and reports unsafe conditions.

Reports any broken equipment or equipment that may need repair; gasses up any equipment when needed; logs tools in and out to be used; picks up and issues supplies when needed; inspects fire extinguisher inspections; conducts painting, minor repairs, trimming trees, cutting trees, pressure washing, installing and removing of fence; and installing any post when putting up park signs.

May supervise any major events; supervise during storms and weather; serve on-call for the Parks Department as well as on-call for rangers; and may need to be available on weekends.

May prep, service, and maintain athletic fields and courts (football, volleyball courts, soccer, outdoor basketball courts, and baseball) for tournaments and games; operate lite equipment; relocate bleachers and park benches when necessary; may spray company approved insecticide; serve as security when needed for people that jump the fences at the athletic fields; and may help train new employees for the Recreation Department when needed.

May do MOT and construction; may repair sidewalks, aprons, curbs, asphalt, depressions, and driveways; conduct brick road repair; and grind concrete for trip hazards

May maintain manholes, curb inlets, and combination inlets (inspects and cleans); maintain and inspect storm lines and laid pipe; build manholes, storm boxes, and concrete headwalls.

Upon arrival to the Job site, evaluates the situation; may initiate a work order; and enter the work completion in the Maintenance Connection application by utilizing a tablet provided by the City.

Provides customer service assistance; responds to expressed citizen questions and concerns; and may assist with the operation of equipment if needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of cleaning methods and skill in the use of cleaning chemicals and care of janitorial equipment and materials.

Knowledge of horticultural practices and procedures.

Knowledge of the use and care of power tools and small power equipment.

Knowledge of seating plans for correct setup of community recreation centers for luncheons, seminars, and other meetings.

Knowledge of safety rules and regulations related to facility maintenance operations.

Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees.

Ability to operate front-end loader, forklift, geni lift, utility vehicle, floor scrubbers, buffers, floor strippers, high reach, roto-tiller, sod cutter, and related equipment.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and simple written instructions.

Ability to perform manual labor such as pushing, pulling, and lifting.

Ability to walk and stand for extended periods, often under hot and humid environmental conditions, and to deal with exposure to insects and chemicals.

Ability to operate lawn mowers, both riding and push type.

Ability to climb and work from ladders or personnel/geni lift.
