Job Description
|
|
Performs para-professional-level work for the Fire Department coordinating the Take Heart CPR program. Work includes organizing, scheduling, and teaching Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and other life-saving training classes. Organizes, schedules, and oversees community events. Serves as liaison between the department and internal and external stakeholders. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Fire Public Information Manager. Performance is reviewed through conferences, reports submitted, and results achieved.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's Degree and certification as an American Heart Association Basic Life Safety Instructor, with two (2) years experience instructing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPS) and Basic Life Support (BLS); or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License.

Coordinates, plans, and publicizes Orlando Fire Department’s Take Heart Orlando CPR program locally and regionally.
Instructs training class attendees on how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and CPR hands only for effective chest compressions and necessary steps for a patient to regain a pulse after suffering a cardiac arrest. Instructs on the steps for the use of automated external defibrillators (AED) and basic life support.
Evaluates performance of students, issues appropriate American Heart Association (AHA) course card upon successful course completion.
Sets curriculum and business plans for educational programs.
Oversees community outreach events promoting the Take Heart Orlando CPR program.
Maintains inventory of equipment used for training, including AHA course cards.
Serves as department liaison to the American Heart Association, as well as with other stakeholders, employees, customers, city agencies and community groups.
Develops and creates marketing materials for Orlando Fire Department Programs.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the five (5) elements of Basic Life Support; initial assessment, airway management, oxygen therapy and chest compressions.
Knowledge of Orlando Fire Department operations and the various fire safety laws, codes and regulations.
Knowledge of media relations, oral and written communication.
Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Knowledge of OFD structure and Public Records laws.
Skilled in CPR, use of AED, and relieving airway obstructions in patients in every age.
Skilled in time management, ensuring all duties and assignments are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
Skilled in public speaking and presenting ideas clearly and concisely verbally and in writing.
Skilled in the use of various computer software and various media equipment.
Ability to independently plan, initiate, and complete assignments.
Ability to research and find solutions to problems.
