Job Description
|
|
Performs highly responsible administrative work for the Greenwood Cemetery. Works independently and is responsible for the daily operation of the cemetery. Coordinates burial arrangements with at-need clients and other funeral services providers. Enforces cemetery rules. Provides pre-need plot sales, collection of revenue, and other administrative and accounting clerk responsibilities. Work is performed under the general direction of the Records and Cemetery Manager. Performance is reviewed through reports and results obtained. The employee may be required to work some evenings and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field and two (2) years of experience in operation services and activities of a cemetery, one (1) year of which must have included responsible accounting clerk experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Notary license required. Valid Florida Driver’s License and clean driving record required. Must pass a background check which includes a polygraph.

Responsible for opening and closing of the cemetery office building.
Provides cemetery plot sales services; shows plot location, discusses rates, processes agreements and warranty deeds and collects revenue and does bank deposits.
Process deeds to cemetery plots.
Answers telephone and emails, and attends to walk-in clients.
Keeps calendar of interments, tours and other events.
Coordinates burial arrangements with other funeral providers.
Inspects cemetery prior to, during, and upon completion of events to ensure cemetery is clean, user requirements are met, and to prevent vandalism and other damage to cemetery.
Coordinates repairs and maintenance and inspection work for completion and report repair and maintenance requests to Facilities.
May work in a lead employee capacity, training, instructing, assigning, and monitoring the work of others, including Caretaker, Security Groundskeeper, and temporary/seasonal help.
Provides administrative and accounts payable clerical support.
Maintains burial records.
Must communicate with the Records and Cemetery Manager daily and escalate difficult or unusual situations.
Must communicate and coordinate with Cemetery Overnight Security / Groundskeeper
Identify or coordinate surveying (and/or GPR) of potential plot sites for future sale.
Performs other duties as may be assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of operations services and activities of a cemetery program.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices necessary in the area of cemetery operations.
Knowledge of automated records and information systems, principles, and practices.
Knowledge of practices and methods of accounting
Knowledge of current laws and regulations, and City policy pertaining to records and cemetery management, including ability to interpret City Code Chapter 16, Cemeteries and Burials.
Knowledge of reading GIS mapping, especially as it pertains to the Cemetery grounds.
Skilled in the safe use of chemicals and fumes used in the processing of film and in cemetery operations.
Skilled in the use of computers, scanning equipment, office equipment, and maintenance machinery used in cemetery operations.
Ability to be self-motivated and work independently
Ability to perform mathematical computations
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with citizens, media representatives, City staff, requestors of information, and customers.
Ability to schedule and assign the work of others as a lead worker.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and citizens
Ability to coordinate efficient cemetery operations.
Ability to lay out graves, spaces, and markers.
Ability to exercise tact, compassion, and diplomacy in dealing with bereaved families and clients, funeral directors, and clergy.
Ability to drive a vehicle safely, including an oversized golf cart.
Ability to work in adverse weather, and walk on uneven terrain.
Ability to stand, walk for extensive periods of time.
Ability to sit at a computer for extensive periods of time.
Ability to work weekends and evenings.
