Job Description
 

Performs skilled work in the installation, rehabilitation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of various low voltage electrical (under 600V) equipment to include motor control centers, motor controllers, power distribution equipment, machinery, power appliances, or other electrical components and electronic devices and equipment, such as variable frequency drives (VFD), solid state reduced voltage starters, transformers, relays and relay logic, industrial communications equipment and systems, process control instrumentation, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), remote telemetry units (RTUs), and other related electrical and electronic equipment within wastewater facilities. Serves as a technical advisor for industrial automation and electrical systems design and alterations. Tests faulty equipment and applies knowledge of electrical or electronic theory and practice to diagnose cause. Replaces defective components and tests, aligns, and calibrates equipment to specifications. Work is performed under general supervision and is subject to review while in progress. Some positions may require work rotating stand-by shifts.

Minimum Qualifications:
Six (6) years of industrial electrical/instrumentation experience in installation and maintenance; or Graduation from a technical vocational program and Four (4) years of relevant experience; or State certified as a Journeyman Electrician. Valid Florida Class E Driver's License required. Home phone or cell phone required. Based on work area of assignment, some positions may require employees to (1) obtain and maintain a security clearance and GOAA ID badge within ninety (90) days of hire date and (2) pass an annual respirator physical; no facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator face plate. Florida Master Electrician License preferred.

 
Responsibilities
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Installs, maintains, modifies, tests and repairs electrical equipment including power appliances, machinery, overhead/underground conduits and circuits, motors, relays, switches, breakers, and control panels.

Installs and connects motors, appliances, heating, and cooling equipment and/or transformers.

Installs, maintains, repairs, and commissions smart motor controllers from various manufactures to include variable frequency drives, solids state reduced voltage starters, and other across the line smart motor management systems.

Installs and troubleshoots RS485 and Ethernet based industrial control networks to include Modbus, Profibus, and Profinet.

Installs, maintains, and tests electrical motors used in various pumping operations.

Uses hand, bench and machine tools in repair and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment.

Uses various electrical metering equipment to include voltmeter, ammeter, ohm meter, wire insulation testers, and power quality meters.

Diagnoses causes of electrical failures.

Interprets and ensures compliance with national and local electrical codes.

Calculates line leads to determine wire and equipment size and capacity.

Prepares sketches for electrical layouts and installation.

Calibrates various electronic wastewater measurement and process control instruments using electronic testing equipment and hand tools.

Inspects electrical or instrumentation equipment for malfunctions, maintenance needs, breakage, and need to detect potential problems and causes of failure.

From a set of prepared drawings, plan, procure components, and build control panels per UL508A standards. 

Maintain PLC and RTU control panels and other various types of electronic equipment and instruments using hand, bench and automated tools.

Monitors and maintains inventory of electrical and electronic components.

Prepares requisitions for supplies and parts, and procures replacements from vendors.

Reviews and evaluates technical specifications for new control systems/alterations of existing ones for feasibility and technical adequacy.

Submits written recommendations to supervisor.

Keeps abreast of current technological developments and advancements related to wastewater modernization.

Performs other related duties as required.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge and skills in the use of the standards, tools, methods, materials, equipment, testing devices and practices of the electrical, electronics and instrumentation trades.

Knowledge and experience of practicing the guidelines of NFPA70E for safety precautions and devices necessary for the safe and efficient maintenance of a treatment plant or lift station.

Ability to analyze the conditions of a control panel to detect flaws or defects in operation and to take appropriate corrective steps.

Knowledge of municipal, state, and national electrical codes.

Knowledge of principles of control systems, computer systems, chemical feeders and electronics/instrumentation Used in wastewater facilities

Ability to plan, layout and maintain a variety of electrical systems and equipment.

Ability to consult with, advise and assist other technical personnel with technical problems.

Knowledge of fiber optics installation, repair, and troubleshooting.

Knowledge of electronic theory as applied to intricate meters, automatic controls, relays, and related instruments.

Skilled in the installation, alteration and repair of electrical equipment which involves standing for extended periods, climbing ladders and stairs, frequent lifting ranging from 20-50 lbs., bending and stooping, reaching over head, climbing and pushing, pulling or digging, and discrimination between colors.

Skilled in the uses of Microsoft Windows and Office products.

Ability to work from technical sketches, read and interpret specifications, blueprints, and technical manuals.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to understand and effectively carry out total and written instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle in performance of job.

Ability to work varying hours including, evenings, nights, and weekends to respond to emergency situations whenever notified.
