Job Description
 
Under the supervision of the sworn Technology and Forensics Unit (TFU) Supervisor, performs specialized and highly technical work in the area of police digital imaging and video production. Performs a variety of tasks involving videotaping of events as needed, including public demonstrations, documenting crime scenes, or any other investigative need; analyzing criminal videos of various formats; editing video and audio media; and producing digital media and/or still images for investigative purposes or public release. Maintains equipment within the Forensic Video Lab. Researches new developments in audio/video technology and editing techniques. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Work conditions may require working in extreme weather conditions, confined areas and heights, noxious fumes, bodily fluids including blood, and viewing violent death scenes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in Video Production, Communications, Journalism, or related field; or equivalent vocational/technical training in audio/visual methods and technology. Two (2) years of audio/visual production experience required, preferably in a law enforcement agency; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Prior forensic video analysis work and/or video production/editing experience highly desired. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Must pass police background investigation, including a polygraph and drug screen.
 
Responsibilities
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Performs specialized, highly technical work in the area of police digital imaging and video analysis.

Maintenance and care of equipment.

Duplicate any format of audio or video media for investigative personnel, State Attorney’s Office personnel, or for Public Records Releases.

Researches, installs and utilizes custom media players for the multiple formats of video used by digital video recorders in order to analyze and/or edit.

Responds to incident scenes and obtains video from digital video recorders.

Edits, converts format, obtains still images, enhances and clarifies video or stills, regardless of format, for investigative personnel.

Pulls video from a variety of in-house digital video servers in order to further criminal investigations or prosecutions, such as interview room video, in-car video, or other video sources from various government infrastructure locations.

Utilizes Photoshop or Illustrator to create or edit custom logos or disc labels as needed.

Creates designs to be imported into video editing software.

Diagnoses problems, coordinates with cable TV provider and assist with building cable TV/DVR issues.

Maintains criminal interview digital recording and monitoring system.

Operates the following equipment: PC with Windows XP, Mac computer with OS-X, PC and CRT monitors, VHS video decks, DVD recorders and players, Extron scan/converters, multi-drive disc duplicator, large-size magnetic media degausser, wired and wireless microphones, audio mixers, full-size DV, mini-DV and DVD-R based cameras, network video servers and recorders.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of operating theory of video and audio systems.

Knowledge of all aspects of audio video production including producing, script supervision, directing, multiple camera operations and placement, lighting, computer graphics, audio, and non-linear computer-based video editing.

Ability to coordinate, shoot and edit special events with little to no assistance.

Skilled in composition of images, including optimum camera selection, placement, in order to properly capture desired action on video.

Skilled in the care and operation of a wide variety of audio and video equipment, including (but not limited to) full-size professional video cameras, video and audio recorders, non-linear editing software such as AVID Media Composer or Final Cut Studio, switchers, mixers, and lighting equipment.

Skilled in the operation of consumer and professional video and still cameras, editors, lighting kits and audio mixers.

Ability to analyze and recover video from hardwired and wireless surveillance security equipment to include various video recorders including tape-based time-lapse recorders.

Ability to document public demonstrations, incidents or crime scenes while in proximity to potentially dangerous or volatile environments.

Ability to work in various conditions including heights from helicopters and at violent death scenes.

Skilled in the operation of computers and related software including Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe Creative Suite products (Photoshop and Illustrator) and Final Cut Studio or AVID Media Composer.

Ability to analyze, capture and clarify still images from videotape and from various digital mediums.

Ability to maintain computers in the Video Lab, including updating, diagnosing problems and installing software as needed.

Ability to make basic repairs on simple electronic devices.

Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with employees, members of law enforcement, community agencies, and others.

Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
