Job Description
 
Performs responsible administrative and public relations work involving security inspections and evaluations and the development and implementation of crime prevention programs for businesses within a designated area of the City. Work is performed under general supervision of a Police Sergeant and performance is reviewed through conferences, evaluation of reports submitted and results obtained.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two (2) years college with courses in crime prevention, crime analysis, law enforcement, public relations, and report writing plus two (2) years responsible administrative or public relations experience preferably in the area of criminal justice, law enforcement, or crime prevention; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must pass police background investigation which includes polygraph examination.
 
Responsibilities
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Reviews crime analysis data and conducts security inspections of business establishments to assess the adequacy of lighting, room locks, and other safety practices in order to facilitate the effectiveness of crime prevention and detection techniques.

Consults with business owners and managers regarding safety and security problems and provides recommendations to improve security and prevent losses.

Prepares written reports reflecting findings, recommendations, and actions taken. Advises supervisor of unusual situations and/or politically sensitive issues. Conducts follow﷓up inspections as needed.

Attends business association meetings to explain the crime prevention programs and solicit their cooperation and support.

Promotes, presents and implements crime prevention programs for tourists and hotel/restaurant employees to increase awareness of safety and security precautions; disseminates "crime alert" bulletins to area businesses.

Maintains current listing of all businesses in designated area.

Maintains records of actions taken by businesses as a result of security inspections; prepares reports as needed.

Prepares detailed weekly status reports of accomplishments and goals.

Performs other related duties as needed to facilitate the accomplishment of crime prevention goals and objectives.
