Job Description
 
Under the supervision of the sworn Technology and Forensics Unit (TFU) Supervisor, provides general and technical photographic services for the Orlando Police Department. Responsible for specialized forensic photography of evidence as well as processing and printing digital images captured by Police Officers, Community Service Officers (CSOs) and Crime Scene Investigators. This position maintains photo processing/printing equipment (RA-4), server-based forensic image management systems, and departmental negative files. Performs some public relations photography, assists Forensic Video Analyst as needed. Work is viewed by investigators, crime lab experts, attorneys and jurors who rely on photography to determine the outcome of the criminal case. Work is visually examined by the supervisor prior to being sent out to requester. Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree with major coursework in Photography, plus two (2) years experience in commercial/industrial/forensic photography including custom processing and/or crime scene investigations work which included photography and custom processing and printing duties. Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Photoshop experience required. Previous experience large-format printers, and audio/visual control systems (such as Crestron) required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required.
 
Responsibilities
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Photograph evidence at crime scenes using proper film, lights, techniques, cameras, lenses, and alternative light sources.

Print black & white negatives and make enlargements up to 20"X24".

Print color negatives and make enlargements up to 16"X20".

Photograph fingerprint evidence developed with fluorescent powders and chemicals using image reversal techniques.

Develop and print film shot using reverse photography techniques.

Develop color film by machine and black & white film by manual means.

Provide training and consultation to Crime Scene Investigators and shift Supervisor regarding special photography procedures and techniques.

Separate film/work orders and assign control numbers to film.

Record work order information onto master log.

Match negatives with proper work orders; cut film and assign to "work pending" baskets.

File negatives in proper files.

Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on photographic equipment and machinery.

Copy transparencies to negatives, or prints to transparencies.

Perform public relations and portrait photography for the police department.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of photographic principles and processes including the theory of light and its application to film and filters.

Knowledge of Public Relations photography and portraiture.

Knowledge of crime scene and evidence recovery procedures.

Knowledge of techniques used for latent fingerprint development.

Knowledge of using alternative light sources for photography.

Skilled in photography using a variety of camera formats and films.

Skilled in developing color, black & white, and reversal photography using manual and mechanical means.

Skilled in photographic printing.

Ability to document public demonstrations, incidents or crime scenes while in proximity to potentially dangerous or volatile environments.

Ability to work in conditions including tall heights, from helicopters, and at violent death scenes.
