Job Description
 
Performs skilled mechanical and first-line supervisory work involving the repair of City of Orlando-owned equipment and vehicles (i.e., refuse trucks, automobiles, pickup trucks, backhoes, rollers, street sweepers, bulldozers, fire engines, rescue trucks, motorcycles, tractors, mowers, et cetera). Work is performed under moderate supervision. Performance is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through equipment inspection, direct observation, fleet performance, and conferences with management.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate with four (4) or more years experience as an Automotive Repair Technician or Collision Damage Estimator, and one (1) year experience in a management or supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. ASE certifications in Suspension & Steering, Brakes, Mechanical & Electrical Components, and Damage Analysis & Estimating required.

Estimates parts and labor to repair damage, using standard automotive labor and parts cost manuals and knowledge of automotive repair.

Reviews repair cost estimates with automobile repair shop to secure agreement on cost of repairs.

Examines damaged vehicles to determine extent of structural, body, mechanical, electrical or interior damage.

Evaluates practicality of repair as opposed to payment of market value of vehicle before accident.

Determines salvage value on total-loss vehicle.

Prepares insurance forms to indicate repair cost estimates and recommendations.

Arranges to have damage appraised by another appraiser to resolve disagreement with shop on repair cost.

Determines salvage value on total-loss vehicle.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of methods used by Auto insurance claims adjusters to examine and estimate the damage done to a car following an accident.

Knowledge of automobile mechanics to properly assess damage and the cost of repairs.

Skilled in interpersonal communications to effectively satisfy customers without awarding excess money.

Ability to determine how much money the insurance company should pay the owner for repairs.

Ability to estimate how much the insurance company should pay in personal injury cases.

Ability to act as a Field adjuster in the viewing and inspecting of vehicles.

Ability to assess vehicle damage

Ability to estimate cost for repair services

Ability to examine equipment to detect disrepair

Ability to examine vehicle to detect malfunctions, damage, or maintenance needed

Ability to fill out business or government forms

Ability to prepare cost estimates
