Job Description
 
Performs responsible, skilled, and first-line supervisory field work involving the construction, maintenance, and repair of City of Orlando facilities and equipment. Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Division Chief and requires considerable trade knowledge in the area of assignment. Performance is reviewed through conferences, inspections of work, and performance of systems. An employee assigned to this classification must be able to lift up to fifty pounds (50 lbs).

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in Electrical, Plumbing, Heating and Air-Conditioning (A/C), Carpentry, or related field and four (4) or more years experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, plumbing, heating and air-conditioning systems and carpentry, some of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required.
 
Responsibilities
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Supervises and participates in the work of several skilled plumbers, carpenters, painters, electricians or air-conditioning mechanics that perform a variety of skilled and specialized tasks.

Reviews work orders, blueprints, and/or schematic drawings of projects, lays out and explains work assignments to staff. Assigns tasks, participates in work, and inspects work upon completion to ensure standards are maintained.

Provides on-the-job training for employees regarding proper work methods, equipment operations, and safety practices; enforces safety rules and regulations.

Requisitions materials and supplies in accordance with established guidelines. May transport employees to and from job sites.

Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems with electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems; determines appropriate corrective measures, and prepares estimates of costs involved.

Performs other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the methods and practices involved in installing, repairing and maintaining a variety of electrical, plumbing and mechanical installations and equipment.

Knowledge of carpentry and painting methods.

Knowledge of advance mechanical principles as they apply to heating, cooling, ventilating systems.

Knowledge of advance principles of electricity stages of construction when possible violations and defects may most easily be observed and corrected.

Knowledge of Orlando Building Code including the Electrical, Structural, Plumbing and Mechanical codes and applicable rules and regulations.

Knowledge of mathematical principles as required by a general high school curriculum.

Knowledge of master level electrical, plumbing, or mechanical skills.

Ability to read blueprints, schematic drawingsand technical specifications.

Ability to use standard testing devices to detect possible defects in plumbing and mechanical systems.

Ability to prepare cost estimates.

Ability to objectively interpret code requirements and related requirements.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and general public.

Ability to effectively communicate the requirements of the codes both orally and in writing.

Ability to prepare written reports and maintain accurate records.

Ability to move about safely on construction work sites, being exposed to heights, confined areas, fumes from chemicals, etc.

Ability to lift heavy objects, climb, bend, and stoop.

Ability to operate bucket truck, 3/4 ton van, high lifts, paint sprayer and related equipment.
