|
Performs skilled and first-line supervisory field work involving the construction, maintenance, and repair of City of Orlando buildings, facilities, and equipment. Work performed requires thorough knowledge in the carpentry field and the ability to assign and direct work activities of several crews, resolve field problems, maintain records, and prepare reports. Work is performed under general supervision and performance is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through conferences, inspections, and evaluation of completed work. Must be able to lift up to fifty pounds (50 lbs).
PARKS: Performs skilled and first-line supervisory field work involving the installation of irrigation controllers, Performs back flows, pumps motors, irrigation maintenance and repair around City of Orlando buildings, facilities, and parks. Work performed requires thorough knowledge in the irrigation field and the ability to train employees, assign and direct work activities of several crews, resolve field troubleshooting problems, maintain records, and prepare reports through email. Work is performed under general supervision. Performance is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through conferences, inspections, and evaluation of completed work. Must be able to lift up to fifty pounds (50 lbs).
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate, training in the carpentry trade, and four (4) years experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of buildings, equipment, and facilities, some of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Journey Level Competency card or equivalent required. Valid Florida Driver's License required
PARKS: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and four (4) years of experience in irrigation installation, troubleshooting irrigation systems, or maintenance repair of irrigation controllers, some of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Journey Level Competency card or equivalent preferred, and may substitute for four (4) years of irrigation experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Class B CDL preferred.

Responsibilities
|
|
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Supervises and participates in the work of several crews of skilled carpenters, in the construction, maintenance and repair of City facilities, equipment, and/or irrigation systems.
Receives work orders, blueprints, and/or schematic drawings of projects, lays out and assigns work to crews; inspects work in progress and upon completion to ensure work is performed by department policies and standards.
Provides on-the-job training for employees regarding proper work methods, equipment operations, and safety practices; enforces safety rules and regulations.
Determines equipment, materials and supplies needed and procures items by established guidelines. May transport employees to and from job sites; attends seminars and conventions relating to the irrigation field.
Assists in the preparation of cost estimates for time and materials required; completes daily activity reports.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the methods and practices involved in installing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of City facilities, equipment, and or irrigation systems, depending on the area of assignment.
Knowledge of Orlando Building Code and applicable rules and regulations.
Knowledge of mathematical principles as required by a general high school curriculum.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.
Skill in the use and care of carpentry tools and equipment.
Ability to read blueprints, drawings and technical specifications.
Ability to prepare cost estimates of time and materials.
Ability to coordinate the work of crews on several job assignments.
Ability to objectively interpret code requirements and related requirements.
Ability to wire up controllers.
Ability to work on irrigation pump systems.
Ability to inventory and order supplies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
Ability to prepare written reports, maintain accurate records, and communicate via email.
Ability to perform duties under adverse conditions such as inclement weather, on construction sites, being exposed to heights, confined areas, fumes from chemicals, and requiring the ability to walk and stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
