Job Description
 

Performs responsible public contact work involving scheduling park activities and enforcing park rules and regulations to ensure that City of Orlando parks are clean and safe. Provides routine information to tourists and the general public. Patrols parks and performs frequent inspection to ensure vandalism and safety hazards are prevented. Prepares daily reports on park conditions, repairs, park attendance, and incidences involving accidents or injury. Work is performed primarily outdoors and the employee may be subject to extreme weather conditions and insects. Work involves nearly constant walking and patrolling of City of Orlando parks. The employee is required to work rotating hours and have varying days off. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Lake Eola Park Manager. Performance is reviewed through evaluation of inspection reports, condition of parks, direct observation, and results obtained.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and two (2) years experience in public contact work, preferably involving security or enforcement duties; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Must pass a police background investigation that includes a polygraph examination.

 
Responsibilities

Patrols park and performs frequent inspections to keep abreast of activities in progress and ensure vandalism and other safety hazards are prevented. Enforces all rules and regulations pertaining to the parks usage.

Reports all incidents, accidents, and/or injuries involving citizens or employees to the Supervisor.

Provides general information to park visitors regarding local area attractions, directions, etc.

Prepares daily inspection reports of park condition, estimates of park attendance, and/or items needing repair.

Operates two﷓way radio to request police assistance as needed.

Advises visitors of park rules and regulations and solicits their cooperation; notifies supervisor and/or police when problems occur.

Researches, designs and implements park programs.

May perform some manual work such as picking up litter and other general cleanup and maintenance tasks which involves some bending and stooping.

Designs and prepares public service announcements and flyers.

Assists in maintaining calendar of events for park activities; collects fees in accordance with established policies and payment schedules.

Initiates basic first aid/CPR and/or calls for emergency assistance.

Performs some minor maintenance activities when necessary including: picking up trash or debri, stock restroom facilities, maintain bathrooms, and clean up spills or damage.

Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge of City ordinances, rules and regulations pertaining to the care and use of City parks.

Knowledge of the Orlando area.

Effective interpersonal skills.

Ability to inspect park grounds and facilities.

Ability to create work requests, log reports, and follow up on repairs.

Ability to interpret rules and contract language.

Ability to guide event promoters through the process of setting up, programming, and take down of park events.

Ability to be courteous and firm in the enforcement of City ordinances, rules and regulations.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with users and the general public.

Ability to operate a two-way radio.

Ability to bend, stoop, push, and pull in order to pick up litter.

Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.

Ability to perform duties under sometimes adverse conditions, inclement weather, traffic fumes, and noise.

Ability to see, hear, speak in order to inspect park property.
