Job Description
 
Performs advanced technical and first line supervisory work with responsibility for the day-to-day operations of traffic signal management. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the work of computer operator personnel, while they are monitoring complex traffic control signals, video cameras, and signal timing designed to improve traffic flow and effective public safety. Work includes: making adjustments to system to improve traffic flow; responding to public complaints of traffic signal outages; communicating with other departments to request traffic signal repairs and reporting outages to the police department. Work is performed under general supervision of the Signal Systems Engineer and is reviewed through discussions, observation, and results obtained. May be required to work evenings and/or weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Science, or closely related field and one (1) year of experience in computerized traffic signal control with progressively responsible supervisory responsibilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Polygraph may be required for positions in this classification with access to security sensitive information/databases. Valid Florida Driver's License required.
 
Responsibilities
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of manual of uniform traffic control devices as related to traffic signals.

Knowledge of Policies and Procedures.

Knowledge of municipal rules, regulations, and ordinances relating to traffic flow and control
.
Knowledge of computerized traffic signal control systems.

Knowledge of computer hardware, software, programming, and networking.

Skilled in the use of signal control systems.

Skilled in the use of a computer, Microsoft Office and Traffic control software.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to assign and evaluate the work of others.

Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Ability to work evenings and/or weekends.

Ability to sit for extended periods of time.


EXAMPLE OF WORK PERFORMED:

Supervises, plans, organizes, and assigns work for Computer Operator personnel. 

Completes employee performance reviews and provides training in the use of equipment, software, and technical skills.

Recommends personnel actions such as employment, promotions and discipline of subordinate staff.

Monitors traffic control system to identify electronic traffic signal outages, requests traffic signal repairs, and reports outages to the police department.

Makes adjustments to system for improving traffic flow.

Generates reports, and analysis of traffic patterns.

Attends meetings as requested.

Responds to questions and/or complaints from the public on traffic signal concerns.

Purchases equipment and office supplies as needed.

Performs other duties as may be assigned.
