Job Description
 

Performs paraprofessional and administrative work coordinating concrete and paving projects. Responsibilities include overseeing and managing the logistical and administrative aspects of construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Interfaces with contractors to plan and coordinate projects. Measures and documents the project, reviews and approves schedules, and maintains traffic plans. Reviews and inspects projects upon completion to comply with federal, state, and ADA regulations. Coordinates with the Public Outreach Coordinator to ensure constituents, managers, and Commissioners are aware of upcoming projects. Work is performed under the general direction of the Paving Plan Engineer. Performance is reviewed while in progress, during meetings, and upon project completion.

Minimum Qualifications:
Paving:
Associate's Degree or Vocational School equivalent, highway paving construction experience, and four (4) years of construction management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) or MOT Certification required. FDOT CTQP Certification or equivalent required. Applicants must list all current Earthwork, Asphalt, and ACI certifications they possess upon application. Valid Florida Driver’s license required.

Concrete:

Associate's Degree or Vocational School equivalent, concrete construction experience, and four (4) years of construction management, project management, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) or MOT Certification required. Valid Florida Driver’s license is required. American Concrete Institute (ACI) Certification or FDOT CTQP Certification preferred.

 
Responsibilities

Works with the Project Manager to schedule the contractor’s work and ensure tasks are completed in the areas required by the division.

Marks and lays out work limits.

Measures and confirms work performed.

Maintains accurate and up-to-date project reports and documentation.

Inspects projects upon completion to ensure work meets federal, state, and ADA regulations.

Submit project invoices to accounting for payment.

Monitors project expenses to stay within the allocated budget resources.

Meets with the Public Outreach Coordinator to ensure proper notification of proposed work is communicated to the Commissioners, Constituents, and City Management.

Reviews the maintenance of the traffic plan to ensure that it meets the City's requirements

Performs other related duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of heavy/highway civil construction

Knowledge of ADA compliance in public right-of-way and sidewalks.

Knowledge of Federal and State regulations.

Knowledge of asphalt paving, sitework, concrete work, and all facets of underground construction.

Knowledge of construction equipment and operation,

Skilled in the use of personal computers and Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

Skilled in the proper operation of construction equipment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong organizational skills, managing multiple projects, and meeting deadlines.

Ability to develop a schedule,

Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.

Ability to give clear directions to contractors.

Ability to perform inspections which may require reaching overhead, kneeling or crawling, and climbing.

Ability to work outdoors around noxious fumes, chemicals, insects, in confined areas, and around excessive noise.
