Job Description
|
|
Performs specialized community support for the Orlando Police Department (OPD). Provides mobile crisis outreach to individuals with mental, behavioral, or substance use disorders. Primary duties include de-escalation and stabilization of those experiencing a mental health or substance crisis or unsheltered living. Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed daily through discussions with the Central Patrol Police Captain.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Nursing, Counseling, Education, or Criminal Justice and two (2) years of experience in crisis intervention; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications required. Must pass police background check which includes polygraph. Must pass CJIS (Criminal Justice Information System) training within the first week of hire.

Consults with individuals seeking mental and behavioral health support and services to facilitate treatment options.
Assists those in need with gaining access to available community resources such as food, housing, and support groups.
Serves as a liaison for individuals seeking assistance from other treatment providers and agencies to assist with resolving the needs of the individual seeking support.
Monitors police radios, responds to dispatch via radio communication, and to in-person calls for service.
Coordinates with community-based care centers to establish agreements to provide referrals.
Coordinates with mental and behavioral health facilities (hospitals, detox centers, inpatient and outpatient treatment centers). Provides individual referrals, assists with navigating options and setting appointments.
Collaborates across city departments for delivery of services for most efficient and effective use of resources.
Attends meetings and trainings as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of human developmental theories throughout their lifespan (e.g., physical, social, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, spiritual)
Knowledge of racial, ethnic, and cultural development throughout a lifespan.
Knowledge of the effects of physical, mental, and cognitive disabilities throughout a lifespan.
Skilled in the operation of a computer and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint).
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff, officials, outside agencies, and the public.
Ability to understand and assess incidents to refer services appropriately.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
