Job Description
|
|
Performs clerical and paraprofessional work inspecting arrest documents and at large and warrant case packages for any mistakes or discrepancies before submitting case packages to the State Attorney's Office. Facilitates information exchange between the State Attorney and the Orlando Police Department (OPD), which is also known as tasking. Streamlines and completes tasking requests if and when the information is available. Clears final dispositions received by the State Attorney's Office. Enters the case number of the final disposition into OPD LERMS system. Performs quality assurance checks for cases given "inactive/charges filed" disposition to ensure the Police Officer has completed and submitted a case package where their case narrative states that charges were filed at large or that he would be issuing a warrant. Work is performed under the general direction of the Police Support Services Manager. Performance is reviewed through discussions and analysis of reports submitted.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and four (4) years or more of clerical experience, preferably in law enforcement; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Must pass police background investigation which includes polygraph. Ability to operate personal computers, the Internet, and Microsoft Office programs required. Typing test may be required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Inspects Officers arrest, at large and warrant case package for any mistakes or discrepancies before it is submitted to the State Attorney's Office.
Completes data entry and notes all supporting documents that were included in the case package before submitting to the State.
Facilitates information exchange between the State Attorney and OPD, which is known as tasking request.
Completes tasking requests when the information is available.
Clears final dispositions received by the State Attorney's Office.
Enters the case number off the final disposition into our LERMS case assignment menu (law enforcement records management system) each case that had been given a "inactive/charging filed" disposition and the defendant either pled or was found guilty, these dispositions are changed to a "clear by arrest" and the date the case was disposed of.
Analyzes LERMS case data for cases given "inactive/charges filed" disposition.
Performs quality control tasks to verifying the Officer has completed and submitted a case package where his case narrative states that charges were filed at large or that he would be issuing a warrant.
Processes Orange County Code Citations 43.95. Tracks and keeps stats on these citations for the OPD City Prosecutor Office. Sends originals to the Clerk of the Court in a timely manner so that the citations are entered by the Clerk of Court in time for the defendant to pay his fine when he calls.
Processes and validates Notice to Appears and sends them to the Clerk of the Court to be entered for a court case, these are time sensitive due to the defendant being issued a mandatory court time.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge and understanding of OPD policy and procedure especially concerning filing arrest packages.
Knowledge of applicable Florida Statutes and Rules.
Knowledge of criminal justice system and/or court proceedings.
Skilled in completing computer related tasks proficiently.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to take initiative, and solve work related problems.
Ability to use various software programs including LERMS, AS400 and Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to collect data; explain and respond to Legal requests for information.
Ability to monitor processing of various transactions to ensure compliance with established policies and statutes; entering, extracting, and researching.
