Job Description
 
Performs supervisory and administrative responsibilities for the City of Orlando’s Streets Division as it relates to the maintenance contracts assigned to the program. responsible for overseeing the work of several City of Orlando staffed crews and contracted crews performing right-of-way and landscape maintenance. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Program Manager. Performance is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through observation and results obtained. Work is performed in adverse conditions such as inclement weather, extreme heat, heavy traffic, and exposure to fumes, chemicals, and/or excessive noise. The employee may be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's Degree in Landscaping, Horticulture, or closely related field and two (2) years experience in landscape maintenance, one (1) year of which must have been in a progressively responsible supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required.
 
Responsibilities

Supervises, schedules, assigns, and participates, when necessary, in the work of crews engaged in street maintenance and repair activities, litter removal and edging.

Assists in the preparation of annual cost center’s budget; monitors expenditures, and prepares weekly/quarterly reports of section’s productivity.

Performs field surveys to determine necessary repairs and preventive maintenance; prepares job estimates, including cost of personnel, materials and equipment.

Participates in the interview process for new hire and promotion of candidates, recommends selections, and disciplinary actions to supervisor.

Insures that all personnel assigned to program adhere to safety codes and wear proper safety equipment on the job.

Responds to emergency during inclement weather or as other unforeseen circumstances dictate and performs other supervisory duties as directed by the Program Manager.

Reports to Program Manager daily the status of work in progress, problems encountered, training needs, etc.

Responds to citizen’s complaints, usually visiting site and discussing action to be taken with property owner.

Recommends purchases and/or authorizes purchase of materials, equipment, and supplies needed; submits requests for emergency purchases and items to the Program Manager.

Maintains time and attendance records.

Coordinates street maintenance activities with other Divisions.

Performs other related duties as needed to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Street Maintenance Section.

Ability to effectively manage and inspect the work of several work crews.

Ability to estimate costs of various construction projects.

Ability to use a computer and Microsoft Office applications

Ability to perform basic math equations.

Ability to maintain records, prepare oral and written reports and impart them effectively.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, and the general public.

Ability to perform work under adverse conditions including: inclement weather, heavy traffic, fumes, chemicals, and/or excessive noise.

Ability to see and hear, walk or stand for extended periods, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, push, pull, dig, climb, and reach over head.
