Job Description
|
|
Performs skilled and supervisory work with some administrative responsibility involving pavement markings, sign design, and installation of traffic signs. Duties include preparing monthly activity reports and assigning, scheduling, and reviewing work. At the direction of supervisor, may perform duties as a crew lead or crew member during special events as required. Work is performed under the supervision of the Signs and Markings Supervisor. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through conferences, inspection of job sites, and evaluation of completed work. Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and four (4) years of experience in the installation of traffic signs and pavement markings, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Florida Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification and IMSA Level II Signs & Markings Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire. Level III Signs & Markings Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Receives work orders, organizes and coordinates activities of crews involved in sign installation or pavement markings; maintains work order log.
Inspects work while in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and Division standards.
Trains crew members in proper work procedures, safety and equipment operation.
Determines equipment, materials and supplies needed; calculates quantities and assembles documents for ordering materials; maintains signs & pavement markings field inventory.
Participants in selection, training, counseling of employees; assists in preparation of work schedules.
Prepares monthly reports of all work accomplished; prepares breakdown of materials and hours for signs and pavement markings serviced/replaced and/or new orders.
Contacts Florida DOT or Orange County regarding signs and markings in need of repair/replacement which are out of City's jurisdiction.
Oversees the installation of bike racks and application of pavement markings by both City staff and contractors.
Reviews the work of subordinates for accuracy and compliance with MUTCD and Roadway Design Standards.
Meets with other Divisions to discuss changes to be made for signage or pavement markings.
Leads crews in the field and directs installations of signs and pavement markings at the direction of supervisor, for special events traffic control.
Performs duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices standards and Florida Department of Transportation standards regarding signs and pavement markings.
Knowledge of materials and equipment and methods used in sign fabrication, installation and maintenance.
Knowledge of procedures, methods, and equipment used in application of thermoplastic pavement markings.
Knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions.
Knowledge of supervisory techniques and methods.
Ability to coordinate activities of several skilled and semi-skilled workers.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and to read and interpret sketches, diagrams, blueprints, and charts.
Ability to make estimates of time and materials needed, and to maintain related records.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
