Job Description
|
|
Performs skilled, supervisory, and limited administrative work involving the construction, renovation, modification, installation, televised inspection, and/or repair of wastewater collection systems. Oversees field activities of skilled workers such as Heavy Equipment Operators, TV Equipment Operators, and Utility Service Workers. Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed through direct observation and discussions while in progress and upon completion.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate plus five (5) years experience in wastewater utility construction, maintenance, and repair activities, two (2) years which must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Class B CDL required. GOAA Secure Area Access I.D. badge required within ninety (90) days of hire. Wastewater Collection "C" Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Reviews work orders, organizes and coordinates field activities of crews involved in the installation of collection lines and extensions of various types and sizes; directs the preparation of surface elevations, selection and sizing of pipe, and ensures joints and connections are properly sealed.
Supervises and participates in the construction of manholes and other collection structures reviews project lay-out to ensure dimensions are correct; inspects work upon completion for accuracy.
Supervises and participates in the repair of sewer and storm lines through replacement or slip-lining; locates and excavates area of damaged line and replaces or relines appropriate area.
Completes daily reports of work accomplishments, field conditions, and problems encountered; participates in project planning and preparation of work schedules.
May operate bobcats, back hoes, pick up trucks, pumps, compressors, air hammers, pipe saws, and other equipment incidental to the construction, repair and installation of collection lines and manholes.
Instructs workers and demonstrates proper work methods, safety, and equipment operation; counsels employees as needed to improve job performance.
Determines equipment, materials, and supplies required for each project and procures items in accordance with established procedures.
Participates in the selection and appraisal of employee performance; may initiate disciplinary action.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, and techniques used in the extension, repair and maintenance of collection systems.
Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, materials, and equipment of the pipe fitting and masonry trades.
Knowledge of occupational hazards of the types of work performed and of necessary precautions.
Knowledge of camera and equipment operation and collection line televising and sealing techniques.
Knowledge of supervisory practices and methods.
Knowledge of operating a computer for data entry such as: entering work orders and tracking materials used.
Skill in the use of pipe-fitting, caulking, masonry, concrete finishing tools.
Skill in the care of tools and equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of collection lines and manholes.
Skill in the operation of large trucks, hand and power tools.
Ability to maintain records and complete reports.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.
Ability to locate leaks, stoppages and malfunctions in collection systems and related equipment, and to decide on practical methods of making repairs.
Ability to plan, schedule, assigned and direct various activities simultaneously.
Ability to operate large trucks, hand and power tools.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
Ability to perform heavy labor such as lifting, bending , digging for extended periods , being exposed to extreme weather conditions, noxious fumes, insects, and excessive noise.
Ability to work from blueprints, rough sketches, and oral and written instructions and make simple and material estimates.
