Job Description
 
Employees assigned to this classification must work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

CENTROPLEX: Performs supervisory and semi-skilled manual work involving the preparation, change-over, and general maintenance of entertainment or convention facilities, grounds, and athletic fields. Employees assigned to this classification supervise crews of workers that perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks involving above-average physical effort and the operation of power tools and equipment, requiring some manipulative skills and the ability to work without frequent supervision. Work is performed under the supervision of the Facility Superintendent. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct observation, meetings, and review of work orders to ensure accuracy and completeness.

ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES: Performs supervisory and semi-skilled manual work involving general maintenance and repair of treatment plant equipment, cleaning of buildings, and/or placement of testing devices to collect and record water entering the sewer system. Employees assigned to this classification supervise crews of workers that perform unskilled and semi-skilled work involving above-average physical effort and operation of power tools and equipment requiring some manipulative skills. Work is performed under moderate supervision and reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct observation, meetings, and review of work orders to ensure quality and timeliness.

CYS: Performs supervisory and skilled work involving the maintenance of grounds, flowers and plants, athletic fields, landscaped areas, and/or the general maintenance of community recreation facilities. Employees assigned to this classification supervise crews of employees that perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks involving above-average physical effort and operation of power tools and equipment requiring some manipulative skills and the ability to work without frequent supervision. Work is usually performed under moderate supervision and reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct observation, meetings, and review of work orders to ensure accuracy and completeness.

PUBLIC WORKS: Performs supervisory and semi-skilled manual work involving the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, roadways, drainage and sidewalks, driveways, curbs, and gutters. Employees assigned to this classification supervise crews of workers that perform unskilled and semi-skilled work involving above-average physical effort and operation of power tools and equipment requiring some manipulative skills. Work is performed under moderate supervision and reviewed while in progress and upon completion through direct observation, meetings, and work review.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and two (2) years maintenance experience in assigned area, one of which must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Florida Restricted Pesticide License, Florida Driver's License or CDL License (B/C), Wastewater Collection Technician Certificate, and home/cell phone number may be required, depending on assignment.
 
Responsibilities
 
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Organizes and coordinates activities of a small crew of workers; reviews work orders, lays out and explains project assignments, resolves problems; inspects work while in progress and upon completion to ensure completeness and accuracy.

Estimates materials, supplies, and time needed to complete assignments; requisitions materials and supplies according to established guidelines.

Oversees and participates in preparation of facility and parks for various events by reviewing work orders and discussing requirements with superintendent to ensure tables, chairs, display areas, stages, and equipment are properly arranged and set up and user needs are met in accordance with departmental policy.

Directs the sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, shampooing or stripping, waxing, removes grafitti and polishing of floors and fixtures to ensure facility is clean and safe.

Directs the dusting, washing, and polishing of walls, rest rooms office furniture and equipment. Ensures rest rooms stocked with soap, towels, and tissue and trash containers are emptied and properly cleaned.

Performs general maintenance tasks such as minor painting, replacement of damaged ceiling tiles and light bulbs, minor carpentry and repair of seats, etc.

May assist with routine grounds maintenance activities such as mowing and edging lawns, sodding, seeding, planting and trimming hedges using riding and/or push mowers and other hand and power tools.

May assist with monitorying some contracted areas.

Supervises the mixing and application of fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides to athletic fields to maintain healthy turf and plants.

Lays out and paints soccer, football, rugby, lacrosse, and flag football fields.

Inspects tools, equipment, and vehicles to ensure they're serviced and properly maintained (e.g. greasing, lubricating, cleaning, checking fluid levels, etc.).

Operates pick up trucks, tractors, riding mowers and other equipment as needed to complete assignments.

May complete daily reports, log books and related records.

Performs other related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of procedures and requirements for banquets, trade shows, conventions, business meetings, inspection, maintenance, construction, repair and cleaning.

Knowledge of cleaning methods and skill in the use of cleaning chemicals and care of janitorial equipment and materials.

Knowledge of insects and diseases which infest plants and turf.

Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.

Knowledge of the use and care of power tools and small power equipment, lateral CCTV equipment and rodding machines.

Knowledge of seating plans for correct house setup and concession duties at the auditorium.

Knowledge of safety rules and regulations related to facility maintenance operations and usage of chemicals.

Knowledge of turf maintenance operations, practices, and procedures.

Ability to operate forklift, geni lift, utility vehicle, floor scrubbers, buffers, floor strippers, high reach, and carpet cleaning equipment.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and moderately complex written instructions and maintain accurate records.

Ability to perform utility locates.

Ability to assign and direct the work of others.

Ability to make estimates of time and materials.

Ability to perform manual labor such as pushing, pulling, and lifting.

Ability to walk and stand for extended periods, often under hot and humid environmental conditions.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Ability to climb and work from ladders or personnel/geni lift.

Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers, facility users and the general public.

Ability to read and understand sketches, diagrams, blueprints, maps and charts.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
