|
WASTEWATER - SEM - CONSTRUCTION: Performs semi-skilled work in the construction, renovation, modification, installation, inspection, and repair of wastewater collection systems (sewage force mains, gravity sewers, and commercial/residential laterals). Assists a skilled worker laying sewer lines and extensions; repairing broken sewer lines and repairing manholes; collecting field data for rehabilitation of inflow/infiltration sources located in the sewer system; and/or performing related work incidental to these tasks. Required to work under adverse environmental conditions. May be exposed to raw sewage. Work is performed under the supervision of a Streets Maintenance/Construction Supervisor and reviewed by direct observation, while in progress, and upon completion.
WASTEWATER - SEM - CCTV: Assists in the inspection and operation of high velocity cleaning equipment to clean sanitary sewer lines; may oversee/lead semi-skilled and unskilled employees. Is required to work under adverse environmental conditions. May be exposed to raw sewage. Work is performed under the supervision of a Field Supervisor and reviewed by direct observation and through discussions while in progress and upon completion.
WASTEWATER - LIFT STATIONS: Performs semi-skilled work in the operations and maintenance of the wastewater lift stations and associated support systems (odor control systems, air compressors, chemical metering pumps and controls, etc.). Is required to work under adverse environmental conditions. Work is performed under the direction of a lead worker in a higher classification, such as a mechanic, electrician, or lift station operator, as directed by the Section Supervisor, and reviewed by direct observation, while in progress, and upon completion.
WASTEWATER - WETLANDS: Performs semi-skilled work in the cleaning, maintenance, construction, and repair of the Orlando Wetlands Park Facility. Assists staff with repairs and preventive maintenance of park infrastructure. Work involves physical demands and exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Will be exposed to wildlife and biting insects on a routine basis. Work is performed under the supervision of Wetlands Manager and reviewed by direct observation, while in progress, and upon completion.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; subject to change based on Division and facility needs. Work Location: Orlando Wetlands Park, 25155 Wheeler Road, Christmas, FL. 32709
FLEET/FACILITIES: Performs skilled work in the inspection and operation of fire pumps and generators for all City-owned buildings/facilities. Duties include running and testing generators and fire pumps on a scheduled weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly basis. Required to work under adverse environmental conditions. Work is performed under the supervision of the Trades Maintenance Supervisor and reviewed by direct observation, accuracy and completeness of reports, and through discussions.
WASTEWATER - ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL - RECLAIM: Performs skilled work in the construction, renovation, modification, installation, inspection, and repair of reclaimed water distribution and metering systems (commercial/residential reclaimed water service lines and metering assemblies). Performs lead and skilled work in the repair, maintenance, and operations of the reclaimed distribution system, as well as several thousand service lines and metering system; performs other related work incidental to these tasks, including assisting with inspections of facilities (commercial and residential) which utilize reclaimed water. May oversee/lead semi-skilled and unskilled employees. Is required to work under adverse environmental conditions. May be exposed to raw sewage and/or reclaimed water product. Work is performed under the supervision of an Environmental Specialist or Field Supervisor and reviewed by direct observation and through discussions while in progress and upon completion.
STREETS Performs work in the construction, renovation, modification, installation, and repair of streets. Performs construction, pipe installations, and cement work including laying curbs and streets; working on a variety of structures; and performing related work incidental to these tasks. Is required to work under adverse environmental conditions. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher classification and reviewed by direct observation, while in progress, and upon completion.
STORMWATER DIVISION: Performs semi-skilled work in maintenance of stormwater curb inlets and baskets in the Streets/Stormwater Division. Performs lead and skilled work in the operation of storm inlets and storm baskets; may oversee unskilled employees. Is required to work in adverse weather conditions.
STORMWATER DIVISION - VACTOR TRUCK: Performs semi-skilled work in maintenance of stormwater curb inlets and baskets in the Streets/Stormwater Division. Performs lead and skilled work in the operation of storm inlets and storm baskets; may oversee unskilled employees. Assists on vactor truck, cleans storm lines and storm systems; and also assists on TV inspection truck. Is required to work in adverse weather conditions.
TREATMENT PLANT: Performs semi-skilled work in the construction, renovation, modification, and repair of wastewater treatment plants. Assists mechanics and electricians in the maintenance and preventative maintenance of treatment under adverse environmental conditions. May be exposed to raw sewage. Work is performed under the supervision of a crew leader, mechanic, or electrician and reviewed by direct observation, while in progress and upon completion.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and two (2) years of experience in public works construction, maintenance, operation of mid-size/heavy construction equipment and repair activities, preferably in the maintenance and repair of sewer lines and manholes, operation, and maintenance of pumping stations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. This is a ladder progression from a Utility Service Worker I position. Some positions may be required to pass an annual respirator physical; no facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator face plate.
LIFT STATIONS: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and two (2) years of experience in Lift Stations operations/maintenance. Operation and maintenance of pumping stations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. This is a ladder of progression from Utility Service Worker I position. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Home phone/cell phone required prior to employment. Incumbent is required to pass an annual respirator physical; no facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator face plate. Employees assigned to the Wastewater Lift Station Section must obtain and maintain a security clearance and GOAA ID badge within ninety (90) days of their hire date.
WASTEWATER:

STREETS: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and two (2) years of experience in road construction. Experience should include storm drain construction, and/or asphalt and/or brick construction, sidewalk, curb and miscellaneous concrete construction; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Progression from a Utility Service Worker I to a Utility Service Worker II will be based on related work experience. Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B may be required depending on assignment. Tanker endorsement may be required within 6 months of hire. Must be able to be reliably contacted by phone in case of an urgent work situation.
STORMWATER DIVISION: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and two (2) years of experience in Public Works maintenance and construction repairs of stormwater inlets, curb inlets, and baskets repair; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B may be required depending on the assignment.

Florida Driver's License is required at time of application.

Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Lays, assembles, and installs sewer lines and extensions of various types and sizes; prepares surface elevations; selects and cuts pipe; and seals joints and connections.
Builds manholes and other wastewater structures; lays out work by measuring dimensions and marking guidelines; spreads mortar; levels and positions block; fastens structures such as manhole rims to mortar; and applies finish to surface.
Repairs sewer lines through replacement or slip lining; locates and excavates area of damaged line; and replaces or relines appropriate area.
For Streets: Repairs damaged manholes; applies chemicals to clean surface; replaces damaged block; applies mortar to cracked areas; and refinishes surface. Raises manholes; removes manholes; measures and pours concrete' replaces manholes' and finishes surface. Excavates streets, sidewalks, and driveway for paving. Smooths and finishes surfaces of poured concrete sidewalks or curbs to specified textures, using hand or power tools; spreads concrete; levels, smooths, and shapes surfaces; removes rough or defective spots; and finishes concrete surface. Repairs streets with asphalt or street bricks; repairs/replaces guardrails and fences. Operates pumps, compressors, air hammers, pipe saws, and other equipment incidental to the construction, repair, and installation of sewer lines and manholes. Assists in the cleaning of sanitary sewer or storm drainage lines, manholes, etc.; positions truck; and places safety devices to prevent damage to curbing, parkways, and/or private property. Repairs depressions in the road and possible sinkholes.
Inspects high velocity cleaning equipment to detect fluid leaks (hydraulic, diesel, water), defective high pressure lines, hoses, and/or other malfunctions; ensures safe, efficient operations; and keeps equipment interior/exterior in good condition.
Operates high velocity cleaning truck and related equipment as needed.
Inspects, checks, and tests complete system of fire pumps and generators.
Maintains records of all daily activities performed.
Ensures that all inspections and tests have been completed properly.
May serve as lead worker to semi-skilled and unskilled employees in accomplishment of work assignments; instructs workers, demonstrates proper work methods, makes sure needed materials, supplies, and equipment are available; and checks work in progress and upon completion. Serves as assistant to a supervisor and performs duties in absence.
For Wastewater Lift Stations: Assists lift station mechanics with the performance of routine, preventive, and emergency duties related to maintaining the mechanical equipment and components of the wastewater lift stations. Assists lift station electricians with their performance of routine, preventive, and emergency duties related to maintaining the electrical equipment and components of the wastewater lift stations. Assists lift station operators with the performance of routine, preventive, and emergency operational observations, inspections, and other related operational duties of the wastewater lift stations.
For Wastewater-Environmental Control (RECLAIM): Locates and identifies areas to repair, replace, or otherwise reconstruct reclaimed water lines using maps and street markers. Excavates damaged lines by using jackhammers and shovels. Cleans, plugs off, and dewaters lines and land in construction area. Assists a skilled worker in the repair of reclaimed water lines and metering stations; assists in the preparation of surface elevations and cutting and sealing of pipes. Participates in the repair, maintenance, construction, and/or rehabilitation of manholes and other wastewater collection system installations; mixes and spreads mortar; and cleans and refinishes surfaces. Compacts earth fill into excavation pit using power equipment. Operates pumps, compressors, air hammers, pipe saws, and other equipment incidental to the construction, repair, and installation of reclaimed water lines and valves.
Performs the preparation of surface elevations and cutting and sealing of pipes; performs inspection of pumps, motors, valves, float control systems, and related equipment to ensure they are properly working.
Assists with conducting various methods/tests relative to water quality, and cross connection control. Installs flow recorders, pressure gauges, and other equipment related to system monitoring.
May perform routine maintenance on City issued vehicle.
May be required, at any time, to assist other maintenance and operations personnel in the performance of routine, preventive, and emergency duties related to maintaining the mechanical equipment and components of the wastewater collection system, reclaimed systems, and/or lift stations.
Maintains related inventory; orders items using a computer; works as a team or individual as needed; interacts with the public; communicates via email, texts, emails, phone calls; and performs general office tasks.
Assists in water conservation, collects water samples, files data to log book, and contains specimens for lab. Performs water quality ; conducts water quality tests and measurements to asses PH levels.
May block lanes of traffic requiring/putting up barricades and cones.
Assists the TV truck when the crew does pipe inspections with the camera.
Manages vegetation management; monitors and manages aquatic ecosystem from the lake surface, shoreline, and surrounding areas using applicable tools.
Conducts erosion control.
Transports equipment to and from stations; assists in helping set and hook up or break down equipment
Uses lawn equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, blowers, and hedge trimmers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
