Job Description
|
|
Performs technical and skilled plumbing work with responsibility for repairing, servicing, and installing water, sewer, and water heating systems and fixtures. Supervision may be exercised over assigned employee's services and trade personnel. Work is performed under the supervision of a trades supervisor. Work reviewed while in progress and upon completion through inspection, observation, and results obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and two (2) years plumbing experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required.

Installs new plumbing, such as pipes, valves, drains, basins, faucets, lavatories, sinks, drinking fountains, hot water heaters, and a wide variety of other fixtures, in facilities and equipment in municipal offices, buildings and facilities.
Installs state of the art electronic energy saving devices and backflows to prevent cross connections and health hazards.
Repairs plumbing including fixtures and pipelines; renews washers and valves; cleans and opens traps, drains, and lines; and operates pipe cutters, reamers, threading machines, sewer tapes, cables, and other related plumbing tools and equipment.
Lays out work, prepares sketches and diagrams, and makes estimates of time and materials required for plumbing jobs.
Keeps records and files daily work reports.
Is responsible for City credit card purchases for related materials each month up to a specified limit; tracks spending and accounts for expense at the end of each month.
Performs building evaluations for police and fire accreditation.
Is considered an essential employee; required to respond after a natural disaster, global pandemic, and other City-wide emergencies
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of principles, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in plumbing installation, maintenance and repair.
Working knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
Some knowledge of municipal and national plumbing codes.
Skill in use and care of plumbing tools and equipment.
Skill in installing, and making repairs to plumbing and related facilities which may involve bending, stooping, kneeling, digging, crawling and reaching above the head.
Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, rough sketches and drawings.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to lead and assign work to others.
Ability to maintain simple records and write reports.
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Career Promotional Path:
Florida Journey level Plumbing license required for hire/promotion to Plumber II.
