Job Description
|
|
Performs responsible journey level electrical work involving the installation, maintenance, and repair work of equipment, machinery, power appliances, fixtures, or other electrical components. Work is performed under the supervision of a technical supervisor and is subject to review while in progress and upon completion for compliance with acceptable electrical standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and four (4) years electrical experience required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess an Orange County Journeyman Electrician Competency card or equivalent. Some positions may require a valid Florida Driver's License prior to employment. Some positions may be required to pass an annual respirator physical; no facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator face plate. Employees assigned to the Streets and Stormwater Division must have some experience in industrial automation and instrumentation. Employees assigned to the Wastewater Lift Station Section must obtain and maintain a security clearance and GOAA ID badge within ninety (90) days of their date of hire. Employees assigned to the Streets and Stormwater Division must have some experience with industrial automation/electrical/instrumentation. Must have a home or cell phone.

Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Installs, maintains, modifies, and repairs electrical fixtures and equipment including power appliances, machinery, overhead circuits, underground conduits, motors, relays, switches, and control panels; installs wall outlets; and connects motors, appliances, heating and cooling equipment, and/or transformers.
Maintains, repairs, and adjusts meters, governors, and timers; installs, maintains, and repairs electrical motors and generators used in various pumping operations; uses hand, bench, and machine tools in repair and maintenance of cranes, pumps, and other plant/shop machinery and equipment.
Detects causes of electrical failures; interprets and ensures compliance with electrical codes; calculates line leads to determine wire, equipment size, and capacity; and prepares sketches for electrical layouts and installation.
Trains and leads electricians, apprentices, and other workers in electrical repair and maintenance work. Maintains reports and records of servicing and electrical maintenance.
Performs minor plumbing and electrical work such as unstopping drains, repairing flush valves, water fountains, water heaters, fire hose pumps, and sprinkler systems; replaces light fixtures, ballasts, wall switches, float switches, and light bulbs; repairs electric ranges, and/or wires electrical motors.
Assists in the operation and maintenance of several municipal facilities.
Assists with the development of preventive maintenance schedules for heating, air conditioning, ventilation systems, and building conditions.
Assists in the work of janitorial staff engaged in the general maintenance and cleaning of buildings (i.e., repair of carpet, wallpaper, locks, holes in walls/ceilings, hanging pictures, minor painting, etc.).
Performs routine inspections of buildings to ensure proper custodian and contractual services and proper functioning of systems; notifies Trades Maintenance Chief of problems with elevators, fire alarms, janitorial and pest control services.
May accompany insurance, OSHA, and County inspectors on annual inspection of facilities and recommends necessary corrective actions.
Performs skilled work in the installation, rehabilitation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of various low voltage electrical (under 600V) equipment including motor controllers, machinery, and other specialized electrical components and electronic devices and equipment, such as variable frequency drives (AB PowerFlex, AB Soft Starters), solid state reduced voltage starters, transformers, relays and relay logic, sink and source wiring, process control instrumentation, programmable logic controllers (Allen-Bradley), and other related electrical and electronic equipment throughout the Stormwater Department.
Serves as a technical advisor for industrial automation and electrical systems design and alterations.
Tests faulty equipment and applies knowledge of electrical or electronic theory and practice to diagnose cause.
Replaces defective components as needed and brings equipment back to operation after completing fault analysis.
Fixes electrical issues at the KIA Center; runs new circuits (wiring and conduit); programs lighting controls; replaces fixtures and bulbs; replaces breakers; handles live entertainment lighting for sports and concerts; and assists in building maintenance.
May be assigned to Wastewater; works with industrial automation and instrumentation.
May work in a hazardous environment that requires passing an annual respirator physical.
Manages and provides support for generator contractors while maintaining a strategic approach to assuring that all generators are actively ready to provide backup power at a seconds notice.
May be responsible for programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining logic control systems in order to meet specific operational requirements and optimize system performance.
Provides excellent communication with clients; maintains a successful relationship with public representatives.
Reads work orders, logs, diagrams, blueprints, schematics, etc.
Prepares activity logs and reports according to work orders.
Applies principles of rational systems to solve practical problems; deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; and interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of the standards, tools, methods, materials and practices of the electrical trade and general maintenance.
Working knowledge of electrical occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions, to include work with high voltages.
Working knowledge of municipal and national electrical codes.
Skill in use and care of standard tools, equipment and testing devices of the electrical trade.
Skilled in the installation, alteration and repair of electrical equipment which involves standing for extended periods, frequent lifting ranging from 20 - 50lbs., bending and stooping, reaching over head, climbing and pushing, pulling or digging.
Ability to interpret and work from technical sketches and blueprints.
Ability to locate and define defects in electrical panels and equipment.
Ability to plan, layout and maintain a variety of electrical systems and equipment.
Ability to train, supervise and lead others in performance of work assignments.
Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
