Job Description
|
|
Performs responsible journey level electrical/electronic work involving the installation, maintenance, and repair work of equipment, machinery, power appliances, fixtures, or other electrical/electronic components. May fix related issues at the KIA Center and operate lighting for events. Work is performed under the supervision of a technical supervisor and is subject to review while in progress and upon completion for compliance with acceptable electrical standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and two (2) years electrical experience required; or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience. Some positions may require a valid Florida Driver's License prior to employment. Some positions may be required to pass an annual respirator physical; no facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator face plate. Employees assigned to the Wastewater Lift Station Section must obtain and maintain a security clearance and GOAA ID badge within ninety (90) days of their date of hire. Must have a home or cell phone.

Installs, maintains, modifies, and repairs electrical fixtures and electrical/electronic equipment including power appliances, machinery, overhead circuits, underground conduits, motors, relays, switches, control panels, transducers, VFDs, transmitters, and level controllers; installs wall outlets; and connects motors, appliances, heating and cooling equipment, and/or transformers.
Maintains, repairs, and adjusts meters, governors, and timers; installs, maintains, and repairs electrical motors and generators used in various pumping operations; uses hand, bench, and machine tools in repair and maintenance of cranes, pumps, and other plant/shop machinery and equipment.
Detects causes of electrical failures; interprets and ensures compliance with electrical codes; calculates line leads to determine wire, equipment size, and capacity; and prepares sketches for electrical layouts and installation.
Trains and leads electricians, apprentices, and other workers in electrical repair and maintenance work. Maintains reports and records of servicing and electrical maintenance.
Performs minor plumbing and electrical work such as unstopping drains, repairing flush valves, water fountains, water heaters, fire hose pumps, and sprinkler systems; replaces light fixtures, ballasts, wall switches, float switches, and light bulbs; repairs electric ranges, and/or wires electrical motors.
Assists in the operation and maintenance of several municipal facilities.
Assists with the development of preventive maintenance schedules for heating, air conditioning, ventilation systems, and building conditions.
Assists in the work of janitorial staff engaged in the general maintenance and cleaning of buildings (i.e., repair of carpet, wallpaper, locks, holes in walls/ceilings, hanging pictures, minor painting, etc.).
Performs routine inspections of buildings to ensure proper custodian and contractual services and proper functioning of systems; notifies Trades Maintenance Chief of problems with elevators, fire alarms, janitorial and pest control services.
May accompany insurance, OSHA, and County inspectors on annual inspection of facilities and recommends necessary corrective actions.
Fixes electrical issues at the KIA Center; runs new circuits (wiring and conduit); programs lighting controls; replaces fixtures and bulbs; replaces breakers; handles live entertainment lighting for sports and concerts; and assists in building maintenance.
May work in confined spaces and be able to deal with gases and noxious fumes.
May install, maintain, program, and interpret SCADA based systems, RTU's cellular systems, and antennas.
Bends conduit, pulls wires, and terminates wires in all types of equipment and enclosures.
Backs up, hooks up, and transports generators, fuel tanks, and equipment to and from lift stations
May assist in the installation of portable pumps and equipment with mechanics.
Works on-call as an essential personnel during emergency situations and on-call on a rotating basis to cover emergency situations on a daily basis.
Follows general safety guidelines as determined by OSHA and City of Orlando safety instructors.
Conducts weekly inspections of assigned work truck for all safety components; is responsible for the upkeep, cleanliness, and safety of the truck at all times; and keeps work truck stocked with various supplies/parts to handle most repairs and emergency situations that arise.
Tests malfunctioning electrical systems and equipment; measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduit; installs and connects equipment to wiring systems; and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
Interprets prepared sketches, diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of the standards, tools, methods, materials and practices of the electrical trade and general maintenance.
Working knowledge of electrical occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions, to include work with high voltages.
Working knowledge of municipal and national electrical codes.
Skill in use and care of standard tools, equipment and testing devices of the electrical trade.
Skilled in the installation, alteration and repair of electrical equipment which involves standing for extended periods, frequent lifting ranging from 20 - 50lbs., bending and stooping, reaching over head, climbing and pushing, pulling or digging.
Ability to interpret and work from technical sketches and blueprints.
Ability to locate and define defects in electrical panels and equipment.
Ability to plan, layout and maintain a variety of electrical systems and equipment.
Ability to train, supervise and lead others in performance of work assignments.
Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
