Job Description
|
|
TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING: Performs semi-skilled work in the fabrication and installation of right-of-way signs and the application of pavement markings and thermoplastic markings. Ensures proper placement of traffic barricades and cones; installation of temporary raised humps; installation and removal of temporary curbing and delineator posts; and installation and maintenance of driver feedback signs. At the direction from supervisor, may assist with traffic control for special events, maintenance, and construction activities. Work is performed under the supervision of the Signs and Markings Supervisor and reviewed while in progress and upon completion through observations and discussions. Working hours are 6:30 am to 5:00 pm, four (4) days a week. Is required to work some off-shifts and holidays.
STREETS AND DRAINAGE: Works independently and exercises judgment in properly placing barricades for public safety, when to close a street or traffic lane, and when to contact other departments for assistance. Working hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm, 11:00 to 7:00 am on rotating shifts with rotating days off. Is required to work weekends and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications:
TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and (3) years of experience in signs and markings installation; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required. Certified International Municipal Signs & Markings Level I required. Florida Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) or Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification required. Must be safety-conscious as work is performed in the streets. Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office desired. Level II (2) Signs & Marking certification preferred.

Serves as lead and participates in the fabrication, installation, or application of signs or pavement markings.
Reviews work orders to determine extent and location of job.
Reviews and maintains neighborhood signs.
Completes log of all work performed to submit to supervisor daily.
Trains new employee in proper work methods, event operations and performance standards.
Drives traffic maintenance truck to and from work site.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of traffic control standards as set forth in the Work Area Traffic Control Handbook and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Knowledge of sign fabrication and installation, and pavement markings.
Knowledge of the mechanical parts of automotive and/or power equipment.
Skill in the operation and use of hand and power tools and related equipment in order to complete assigned tasks.
Skill in performing mechanical repairs and maintenance on municipal mechanical equipment.
Ability to perform a variety of semi skilled maintenance and repair tasks to municipal property.
Ability to adhere to tight schedules and still maintain satisfactory work quality; availability to work evenings and staggered schedules.
Ability to read blueprints and sketches relating to street construction.
Ability to lay out and supervise the work of lower level employees.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, departmental officials and the general public.
Ability to perform duties under adverse conditions such as inclement weather, requiring standing and walking for extended periods, climbing, digging, bending, stooping, and lifting.
