Job Description
|
|
Performs mechanical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of lift station and waste treatment equipment and machinery. Determines nature of malfunctions and suggests how to repair it, or if equipment should be returned to the shop for a major overhaul. Decides when the shafts need lubricating, additional oil for the engine is needed, plugs or points needed, etc. Work is performed under supervision of Mechanic Supervisor or Manager and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for accuracy.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and one (1) year of industrial mechanical experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License or Florida Commercial Driver's License A, B, or C prior to employment, depending on equipment assigned to position. Must own a standard set of mechanic tools (list attached). Must have a home phone or cell phone. Some positions must pass an annual respirator physical; no facial hair allowed between the face and sealing surface of the respirator face piece.
WASTEWATER LIFT STATIONMust obtain and maintain a security clearance and GOAA ID badge within ninety (90) days of hire date.
Additional Qualifications for Promotion (Mechanic I to II):
To progress from a Mechanic I to a Mechanic II, an employee must accumulate two (2) years of appropriate mechanical experience and demonstrate their mechanical knowledge, skills, and abilities to the satisfaction of their supervisor and/or manager.

Responsibilities
|
|
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Performs preventive maintenance inspections and lubricates equipment as needed.
Clears pump blockages; changes oil and filters, gauges, and gaskets to keep equipment functioning properly.
Operates wrecker boom hoist to remove and install equipment; may run and operate 60 ton crane, backhoe, bobcat, forklift, JLG, and any other heavy equipment as needed.
Assists in the installation and repair of engines, bearings, pumps, valves, and other equipment.
Performs minor maintenance on trucks, edger’s, generator units, and mowers as instructed.
May rebuild pumps under close supervision.
Removes and replaces sludge pump gear joints.
Repacks pumps as instructed.
Adjusts denitrification unit chains.
Lubricates pumps, blowers, bearings, etc.
May perform mechanical work on all equipment in a plant including installation, removal, and any repairs; troubleshoots and finds solutions to any malfunctioning machinery or equipment.
Repairs and replaces broken parts on bar screens including valves, sprayers, compactor, and inside parts including sprocket and chains.
Performs repairs to valves, pipes, and chlorinators in S02 and chlorine building under SCBA masks; follows strict safety precautions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of standard mechanical procedures and tools.
Knowledge of engines, pumps, and generator operation.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Skill in operation of overhead crane, forklift, and vehicle with boom hoist.
Ability to perform inspections of equipment, which involves lifting, pushing and pulling heavy objects.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
