Job Description
 
Performs semi-skilled manual work involving event preparation, change-over, and general maintenance of the Amway Center. Employees assigned to this classification perform a wide variety of tasks; require knowledge of the regulations/specifications of the various sports; use independent judgment and initiative; apply above-average physical effort; operate power tools and equipment; work without constant supervision once tasks are learned; and may possibly have lead worker responsibilities. Sets-up weddings and other events including handling of tables, chairs, and facility rentals; performs basic maintenance on the Welcome Center and outdoor bathrooms; and may work in the booking office. Work is performed under moderate supervision of a Crew Leader or Facility Superintendent; is reviewed while in progress; and is reviewed upon completion through direct observation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to sports regulations and/or specifications

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and one (1) year general maintenance experience required; or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience. Ability to read, write, and follow instructions. Valid Florida Driver's License required.

Services and performs minor maintenance such as repairing and cleaning of tools and equipment associated with set-ups and breakdowns of public entertainment areas; also services and repairs restrooms to best of ability.

Services and performs minor maintenance such as repairing and cleaning of tools and equipment associated with set-ups and breakdowns of public entertainment areas; also services and repairs restrooms to best of ability.

May assist supervisor by assigning work of crews engaged in setups and breakdowns in all areas of Leu Gardens.

Performs work involving event preparation and breakdown of wedding rehearsals, weddings, receptions, business meetings, and banquets. Tasks include setup and breakdown of chairs, tables, and audio/visual equipment.

Performs work involving event preparation and breakdown of monthly movie nights at Leu Gardens. Tasks include setup and breakdown of A-frame signs, speaker system, and movie projector as well as performing parking duties for guests.

Performs clerical duties for booking office such as creating and filing contracts, creating reservations, taking payments for rentals, and putting together weekly setup packets for event staff.

Puts together the monthly schedule for event staff.

Performs other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of regulations and specifications of installation of floors and equipment associated with various sports, such as National Basketball Association and National Hockey League.

Knowledge of portable basketball floor installation, the use and construction of modular staging systems, and the installation of ice flooring.

Knowledge of set-up and breakdown procedures and requirements for event preparation at the Arena.


Knowledge of cleaning methods and skill in the use of cleaning chemicals and care of janitorial equipment and materials.

Knowledge of the use and care of hand and power tools, and power equipment utilized in facility preparation.

Knowledge of seating plans for correct house setup and concession duties at the Arena.

Knowledge of safety rules and regulations related to facility maintenance operations.

Skill in the operation of forklift, personnel lift, utility vehicle, ultra high speed floor scrubbers, buffers, and floor strippers, high reach, carpet cleaning equipment, and ice making/maintenance equipment.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to perform manual labor requiring pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Ability to walk and stand for extended periods, often under adverse environmental conditions such as extreme cold while making ice floors, loud noise from equipment and machinery, fumes from chemicals.

Ability to climb and work from ladders or personnel/genie lift.

Ability to assign work and ensure completion in accordance with department and sporting standards and specifications.

Ability to work varying hours, sometimes overnight, to accomplish changeover of facility from one event to another.
