Job Description
|
|
Performs semi-skilled manual work involving event preparation, change-over, and general maintenance of the TD Waterhouse Centre. May perform skilled manual labor involving event preparation, change over, and maintenance at the KIA Center. Employees assigned to this classification perform a wide variety of tasks; require knowledge of the regulations/specifications of the various sports; use independent judgment and initiative; apply above-average physical effort; operate power tools and equipment; work without constant supervision once tasks are learned; and may possibly have lead worker responsibilities. Work is performed under moderate supervision of a Crew Leader or Facility Superintendent; is reviewed while in progress; and is reviewed upon completion through direct observation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to sports regulations and/or specifications.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and two (2) years general maintenance experience required; or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience. Ability to read, write, and follow instructions. Valid Florida Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Participates in preparation of TD Waterhouse Centre's various events; installs NBA approved basketball floor; installs hockey dasher boards and protective glass to NHL and International specifications; constructs concert stages to exact dimensions; operates electrically driven, pneumatically operated telescoping seating; installs handrails and removable steps; and sets up floor seating according to diagrams or verbal instructions.
Participates in the installation of ice floors; systematically applies successive layers of water under proper environmental conditions to build ice to proper thickness; paints ice; and applies lines in accordance with appropriate sporting regulations.
Performs janitorial duties such as cleaning public and non-public areas using a variety of cleaning chemicals and equipment; operates ultra high speed floor scrubbing, finishing, and buffing equipment; performs minor maintenance of building, furniture, electrical, and plumbing fixtures; and operates personnel lift to a height of 50 feet to accomplish routine building maintenance and cleaning of high places.
Services and performs minor maintenance such as greasing, lubricating, and cleaning of tools and equipment associated with setup and breakdown of public entertainment areas.
Operates light to medium sized automotive and specialty equipment such as forklifts, personnel lifts, ice resurfacing, and maintenance equipment.
May assist supervisor by assigning work of crews engaged in setups, breakdowns, and janitorial duties in all areas of the Arena.
Performs electrician duties for shows. This involves plugging in truck, audio, and video power and follow the show's lighting commands. Also, replaces fixtures and outlets; troubleshoots elevator issues.
Performs plumbing needs such as snaking toilets; troubleshoots and repairs sinks and toilets; and troubleshoots water/soda line leaks.
Replaces ceiling tiles as a result of removal and reinstallation of fire sprinkler systems and lighting fixtures.
Handles demolition of areas in preparation for new builds using power tools and heavy machinery.
Applies and removes advertisement decals on basketball court and goals.
Performs ice maintenance to keep ice thick, consistent, and up to league standards including using Zamboni, edging, painting, and installing and removing of advertisement decals.
Repairs tools and equipment associated with setup and breakdown of stages and public entertainment areas.
Repairs doors hinges and handles, floating walls, and sliding glass panels.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of regulations and specifications of installation of floors and equipment associated with various sports, such as National Basketball Association and National Hockey League.
Knowledge of portable basketball floor installation, the use and construction of modular staging systems, and the installation of ice flooring.
Knowledge of set-up and break-down procedures and requirements for event preparation at the TD Waterhouse Centre.
Knowledge of cleaning methods and skill in the use of cleaning chemicals and care of janitorial equipment and materials.
Knowledge of the use and care of hand and power tools, and power equipment utilized in facility preparation.
Knowledge of seating plans for correct house setup and concession duties at the TD Waterhouse Centre.
Knowledge of safety rules and regulations related to facility maintenance operations.
Skill in the operation of forklift, personnel lift, utility vehicle, ultra high speed floor scrubbers, buffers, and floor strippers, high reach, carpet cleaning equipment, and ice making/maintenance equipment.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to perform manual labor requiring pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Ability to walk and stand for extended periods, often under adverse environmental conditions such as extreme cold while making ice floors, loud noise from equipment and machinery, fumes from chemicals.
Ability to climb and work from ladders or personnel/geni lift.
Ability to assign work and ensure completion in accordance with department and
sporting standards and specifications.
Ability to work varying hours, sometimes overnight, to accomplish change-over of facility from one event to another.
