Job Description

|
Performs technical computer-aided drafting and design work preparing a variety of surveys, sketches, and design drawings for a variety of projects and City Departments. Drawings range from simple sketches to complex boundary and topographical surveys requiring critical thinking and evaluation in how to approach each application requiring drafting or design. An employee in this position is responsible for following all applicable rules, codes, and/ordinances in performing daily tasks. This includes following departmental procedures for design specifications and required accuracies. Instructions are given orally and in writing and are general in nature. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed for neatness, accuracy, and conformances of desired work product and results desired. Must work directly with other employees to meet the requirements of each job and ensure timely completion.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate and four (4) years experience in engineering/survey drafting required. Must possess a Certified Survey Technician Level II or higher from NSPS (National Society of Professional Surveyors) or a State of Florida Surveyor and Mapper license. Position requires knowledge of 5J-17 of the Florida Administrative Code and Florida Statutes Chapter 177. A valid Florida Driver's License is required. Experience with AutoCAD 2009 or newer and/or MicroStation V8XM or newer required. AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 or newer preferred.
Additional Qualifications for Promotion:
Promotions are not to be considered an automatic function of longevity and are subject to the review and authorization of the Supervisor. The employee’s last performance review must have resulted in an overall rating of Meets standards or better with no factor rating of less than meets.

Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Prepares a multitude of various mapping and surveying products.
Prepares parcel maps, boundary surveys, record of survey maps, subdivision plats, topographic maps, and easement exhibits and legal descriptions and exhibits.
Prepares land boundary, hydrographic, control, specific purpose, vertical and horizontal maps, as-built construction plans and geodetic survey plot drawings.
Researches and compiles record information such as record maps, legal descriptions, utility information and right-of-way data.
Reviews site and developer plans and legal descriptions of property and researchers information regarding right-of-ways, easement, sanitary and storm lines and alley ways.
Performs complex mathematical calculations to reduce field data to coordinate geometry data, and to compute areas, volumes, and other pertinent data.
Creates, stores, and analyzes map and plans information to include pertinent boundaries.
Operates plotters, copiers and digitizing equipment.
Defines and calculates contours, boundary lines, contour and right-of-way lines, roadways, and other manmade features.
Creates computerized drawing files; plots and reproduces files to hard copy on a variety of media types.
Maintains and updates drawings of buildings structures, mechanical and electrical systems, intersections, treatment plants, lift stations, and related facilities.
Prepares written and oral reports, presentation drawings and charts.
Attends meetings and works with other departments to address survey needs and any surveying concerns.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the basic principles, laws, standards, codes, techniques, and terminology of land surveying.
Knowledge of civil engineering principles, geometry, cartography, graphic design, and geographic information systems.
Knowledge of various governmental agencies and the methods to pull required data and information required in completing tasks.
Knowledge of methods used to get information from within the organization’s various departments and through many different government organizations.
Knowledge of proper surveying procedures and meeting design criteria and accuracies.
Knowledge of construction layout and procedures.
Skilled in drawing a variety of lines types, curves, and arcs.
Skilled in preparation and presentation of written and oral reports, presentation drawings and charts.
Skilled in the use of computer-aided drafting and design equipment.
Skilled in the operation of various specialized software and office equipment, e.g., color ink jet printer; Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel; GIS applications, etc.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, and to meet deadlines.
Ability to create, modify and delete a variety of plans, maps, construction drawings and related technical documents.
Ability to prepare work from field notes, electronic files or a combination of both.
Ability to accurately replicate dimensions angles and other precise measurements and specifications.
Ability to read and understand complex legal descriptions.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to deal with other employees and the general public.
