Job Description

|
Provides administrative support and promotes public awareness in the area of Stormwater and lake management. Responsible for developing, coordinating, and presenting public education and information projects for the Streets and Stormwater Division in an attempt to lessen environmental impacts made by citizens. Transports and arranges displays at exhibit-type functions. Maintains database and evaluates available data to determine factors upon which to base Stormwater fees. Assignments are usually performed with general instructions, guidance, and minimal supervision. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Division Chief. Performance is reviewed through conferences, reports, and results obtained.
WATER RECLAMATION - WETLANDS: Provides administrative support and promotes public awareness as it relates to the Wastewater Division and the Orlando Easterly Wetlands. Responsible for developing, coordinating, and presenting public education and information projects. Transports and arranges displays at exhibit-type functions. Maintains a volunteer program, records, training, and information related to the operation of the Wetlands Park. Work duties typically involve office work approximately 60% of the time and outdoor field-related activities and work 40% of the time. Assignments are usually performed with general instructions, guidance, and minimal supervision. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Wetlands Manager. Performance is reviewed through conferences and results obtained.
WATER RECLAMATION - CPA: Provides administrative support and promotes public awareness as it relates to the Water Reclamation Division and the Education Center in an attempt to lessen environmental impacts made by citizens. Responsible for developing and presenting public education and information projects. Upkeeps and arranges displays in and around the Education Center. Maintains education programs, records, and information related to the operations of the Education Center. Assignments are usually performed with general instructions, guidance, and minimal supervision. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Outreach Coordinator. Performance is reviewed through conferences, surveys and reports obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or closely related field and two (2) years experience in the environmental education field, including experience in public education/presentations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

Provides public information about lake water quality, Stormwater management and improvement projects through public presentations, development and use of flyers and brochures, telephone conversations and articles.
Produces meaningful, informative and education displays.
Promotes and supports citizen volunteer program to maintain and increase the amount of lakes being monitored in the City. Provides training and support for volunteers to become proficient in lake water sampling.
Works on special projects as assigned by Division Manager such as citizen/customer mailing projects, specific research, and analytical assignments.
Participates in various educational projects related to Stormwater and lake management. Examples are: topic related conferences, environmental events such as Earth day, lake shoreline cleanups, and participation in related associations and committees.
Performs other related duties as required.
(Wastewater - Wetlands)
Coordinates and assists with the planning and implementation of various onsite and offsite education programs, such as tours, public programs, exhibit displays, outreach events, and the Orlando Wetlands Festival.
Provides public information about reclaimed water, wetlands and water quality. Conducts offsite and field-based public presentations to school, civic and other groups.
Develops and produces both print and media based education literature about the park. Assists in keeping Wetlands website up to date and accurate, as well as responding to citizen questions.
Curates and produces meaningful, informative educational displays. Cares for Education Center, live animal displays, and exhibit collections.
Promotes and supports a citizen volunteer program to promote education and appreciation for the Orlando Easterly Wetlands. Provides training and support for volunteers to become proficient in environmental education. Coordinates and plans volunteer events.
Assists with the Orlando Easterly Wetlands Prescribed burn program as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to design and construct creative, professional looking exhibits to be used in front of the public.
Ability to lift, handle and carry equipment and supplies used for public information displays. This includes large 4' x 8' display boards, easels, boxes, handouts and various supplies.
Working knowledge of architectural and engineering construction plans.
Considerable knowledge of engineering terminology.
Skill in the effective utilization of personal computers.
Skill in performing technical computations and statistics, analyzing complex data and preparing reports based on findings.
Ability to read and interpret a wide variety of maps, plans, aerial photographs, survey notes and other cartographic records.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
