Job Description
|
|
Performs technical work in the classification and filing of plans, drawings, project notes, and records. Responsible for creating, maintaining, and updating City of Orlando maps utilizing GIS equipment and software (Esri/ArcMap). Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed through observation of work, timeliness, and accuracy of work product.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate with three (3) years of GIS experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. College coursework in Cartography, Geography, Engineering, and Photogrammetry may substitute for experience on a case-by-case basis. CAD training desired.
Additional Qualifications for Promotion:
Promotions are not to be considered an automatic function of longevity and are subject to the review and authorization of the Supervisor. The employee’s last performance review must have resulted in an overall rating of Meets standards or better with no factor rating of less than meets.

Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Creates, maintains, and updates computerized utility maps by maintaining and updating databases and other reference materials. Produces hard copies maps. Builds edits and manages the City sanitary sewer layers for use by the entire city. Creates custom map products for internal and external use, creates and analyses data for internal and external use.
Computes boundary closures using knowledge of trigonometry.
Researches and compiles data including recorded and unrecorded plats; legal instruments, and private and government surveys.
Responds to questions from general public, governmental and private agencies concerning the information pertaining to property ownership; provides information when needed.
Determines scale dimension, radii, point location and other schematics and sketches.
Prepares legal descriptions and plots legal descriptions for notes and bounds descriptions and annexation; prepares annexation notices and monthly report of annexations.
Issues, assigns and verifies address.
May perform the responsibilities of CADD Technicians in their absence.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of Civil Engineering and trigonometry.
Knowledge of topographic, planimetric and cadestral techniques.
Knowledge of computer graphic terms and equipment.
Knowledge of CADD/GIS technology and methods for updating and maintaining graphic databases.
Skill in writing simplified legal descriptions.
Skill in drawing complex plans and graphic representations using bearings and distances.
Ability to digitize manual maps and plans as required.
Ability to operate full size scanners, plotters and microfilm machines and GIS/AMS System.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, representatives of other agencies, and the general public.
Ability to operate computer for extended periods of time.
